Web-Designers: Does anyone use ExpressionWeb 4?

Anything about MUSIC but doesn't fit into the forums above.

Until now I've used Scriptly (Webocton) to make my homepage.

But a few days ago I've read that the successor of Microsoft FrontPage, ExpressionWeb 4, is free now...

I have downloaded it, it looks very promising, but I'm not sure whether I should learn how to use it because my time is pretty limited...

Is anyone using it? What's your experience? Worth it or not?

(BTW, I know HTML and CSS and some pieces of JavaScript; I don't know PHP and all that other stuff, unfortunately.)

Almost 20% of all websites use Wordpress. I guess there must be a reason... ;)

For static pages it might be overdose but if you update content on a regular basis you should consider diving into this (or another) CMS.

My (pretty outdated :cry:) blog is in Wordpress but I don't want to have my whole homepage in Wordpress...

Nope, I haven't used ExpressionWeb or any of those "HTML Helper" programs since 2001...

Really, if you know HTML/CSS you don't need to -- just use a text-editor like TextMate etc. and call it a day...

I don't know what more ExpressionWeb is gonna give you, templates?

If I wanted a template to base my own design off of, I would just grab one, open it up and hack away at it.

There are tons of decent quality templates/themes out there that should get you to a good place IMO.

This is a strange line indeed. Wordpress can create any look you want. It's like saying you don't want to use CSS ?!

This is a strange line indeed. Wordpress can create any look you want. It's like saying you don't want to use CSS ?!
I do use CSS but my homepage isn't made with Wordpress. Only my blog is made with Wordpress. Blogs were the main application for Wordpress, anyway.

tricky:)

use adobe f;ash professional for animations and buttons, dreamweaver for desing and photoshop extended w/ cracks.... its too expensive to buy, adobe must realize but when wanna webdesign best;)

I think perhaps you are not seeing the wood for the trees. If you know Wordpress for many years then why would you bother with an inferior alternate product? Just use Wordpress for your site. There are many good free templates, or for $40 you can buy something very swish.

As for the other comment about Dreamweaver & Flash - in my opinion that is the 1990s way. Both apps are way past their prime, especially Flash. Flash now only exists as an ad-creation tool and even then you will need fallback elements for the many devices that either block Flash or will not run it.

There are still loads of homepages made with Flash because of the Flash trend some years ago - especially hotel & restaurant websites... I've always hated them, some people use tons of images, and it takes minutes to load them... :x

Why should I use Wordpress for my homepage when I already have a homepage written in HTML, CSS and JavaScript (and even with a PHP contact form)?

I did ActionScript for a while and did a lot of freelance work with Flash, animations & early web video. It was so powerful it was its own worst enemy: far too much stuff was done in Flash that was better done elsewhere. Luckily I jumped off that ship before it started towards the rocks... Now I'm a Wordpress person :D

No one with experience in ExpressionWeb 4?

Do they all write their code in PSPad? :shock:

ExpressionWeb looks somewhat promising but I don't know if it's worth learning?
