well to jump in, I started something in flstudio and decided I wanted to continue using fl as a vst. here it becomes fuzzy, don't remember if I was using Orion or Cubase, but when I played FL as a vst, I swear it sounded different. Now, I wasn't looking for anything, it just started playing and it caught my ear.I thought, 'hmmm, that sounds different, brighter or something...'

so, to sum it all up, it's the fact that you think that sequencers sound different that makes them sound different?

Yes, mostly. That, along with differences in GUI that trigger further perception deciept. I know we agree, it's just that (IMHO) you didn't put it very well.

i'm curious though gol are you saying there are no differences in the quality of hosts audio output. this is then contrary to what the developer of orion has suggested that there are differences in audio quality between hosts.

Could it just be that you're used to how the app's environment reacts (sonically) to your actions that you actually prefer? Or is it EQs and filters bundled with app (and not the core audio engine) that you like? In which case there are plugins to replace these, and anyway, we come to issues of value for money and personal preferences ("this EQ sucks it's not musical", "this compressor has a cold sound") and I'm not touching that with six foot pole.

Just so you know, at a pretty objective test of mixig two waves at the same volume with no FX, a wave rendered with big-shot ProTools TDM mixing engine phase canceled to perfect digital silence with the one rendered with FL's engine. Or at least, this guy (who actually wanted to prove the opposite to me, and I was there representing the old "summation is summation" POV) claims so. I'm pretty sure it'd be the same with majority of hosts.

Just plain old louder can (and will) sound brighter. Google "Fletcher Munson" and learn something new today.

Try this:

Open up fruity, create a simple sequence using any VSTi's you want.

Do NOT assign them to any FX buss or mixer channel.

Push "Play" and listen.

Now grab an older version of fruity and run it (by temporarily renaming your current FLS dir to XFLS or something) using the same VSTi's and no FX or mixer channels assigned.

Listen to it.

Can you hear a difference?

If you can, you should ask the giant pink bunny that lives in your refrigerator why this is happening, because maybe only he could tell you...

NOW assign the VSTi's to the audio mixer buss and add you FX.

Listen to it.

Can you hear a difference? Do you know why your are hearing a difference?

If not, again go to the pink bunny who will explain everything.

Funny, I've just checked and guess what, there is no pink bunny in my fridge. There is a couple of roaches just outside it tho, but they were munching on the remains of that pasta bolognese from last week (or at least I'd like to think it was just last week), and I've decided not to bother them about the pink bunny since they seemed very occupated with what they were doing.

This is all starting to become very confusing.

It's funny how you're eager to make fun of us non-natively english speaking people, when 80% of Americans, Brits and Aussies I come across on forums I visit are nearly illiterate in ther own language, spelling so badly even I sometimes find it hilarious, and unable to write a moderately complex sentence without making horrible gramatic mistakes. I think I'm pretty eloquent for somebody writing in a totaly foreign language I seldom use outside Internet (and I assure you that I'm VERY eloquent in my native language, which is a Slavic language pretty distant from English).

I think you misunderstood what he said. "Dubya" is a reference to George W. Bush. I believe that previous poster was referring to how "Dubya" seems to enjoy occupying other countries.

No, I'm pretty sure I didn't. I know it's a reference to Bush, who is also famous for being practically iliterate (but natively English speaking, unlike me), and what he tried to imply is that the correct form of the word is (now I remember) "occupied".

I just think that on an internationally accessible forum, making fun of someone's grammar or spelling isn't very nice. Sorry if natively English speaking people found offense in my remark (on newsgroups and forums where my language dominates, 80% of people are illiterate in it as well).

Nah. Dont take it personally. I like it when people misspell and generally screw up the language on the forum (f**k knows, I'm as guilty as anyone). It makes it seem like real speech.
It's just that 'occupated' sounds like a classic bushism.
