Ian McKellen, I presume, could certainly vouch for their existence.SJ_Digriz wrote:Unfortunately, there is strong evidence that they exist. Unless you subscribe to solipsism.trusampler wrote:. No bitwig doesn't believe in dongles. Thanksfirepile wrote:Is it dongled?

From what I recall is meant for stuff more like Reaktor's Monark (or the equivalent Max4Live plug), where you want to put your own DSP inside using their modular SDK, or some other (user?) created stuff that is to big/expensive to do without a returning. Who wouldn't like to have something Divas Osc or Filters in a modular environment similar to M4L available to do whatever they want...Anyway take a big grain of sail, memory do tricks.ThomasHelzle wrote:
I never heard of that plugin store idea but seeing what the internal devices can do, it would be interesting.
Usine has a good SDK and an addon-download area included in the application, but all of them are free, mostly built by the community but many created by Sensomusic themselves.
I didnt mean "trojan" as a bad thing (although it is bad choice, I give it), just saing that a bigger user base that, potentially, a lower price could reach could a have good payoff in the long term, if they are indeed planning that.
"Using this as a trojan" is the wrong state of mind for a company. There are too many companies already that use such psychological means/traps to separate people from their money. If you base your company on such an idea, you treat your customers as idiots from the start. As lambs that are just there to be slaughtered and exploited. That does something to your customers and it sure does something to you.
I wouldn't want to live/work like that.
And I don't believe in appealing to crack users by lowering the price either.
Nobody in this day and age can tell me that it is necessary to spend a single dime on software to make music.
Everything else is either habit or self delusion.
If you got yourself convinced that the commercial world of vendors is a greedy bunch of suckers and feel entitled to steal their work, your mindset will not change because of the price asked.
Constraints are actually good for the human brain, it has evolved in a complicated surrounding where problems were challenges to be tackled. The brain is getting creative if it is presented with a challenge. That's what triggers it.
But our society feeds on unhappy people trying to become happy by buying stuff.
Doesn't work, but is habit-forming.
Not tring to defend piracy, because devs really deserve payment for their work, just tryng to shed a light on it.
You dont have a free performance/no linear environment like Live or Bitwig option, or modular or even a additive synth, that I know off
A general agreement, just I find that high prices put many people, although we may find that different accordingly to the place where we live on and others matters, like I said before a good plug or DAW can easily cost more than month months work where I live, I guess that if one live in Finland or other high minimum wage, price play a smaller part on it if you use pirated stuff. Anyway if you look at things like Steam, in the tops usually there is a lot of good, indie, cheaper games on it.
And, in part, I am such a big supporter of Linux because it brings everything one may need in their everyday computing without any need to use pirated stuff.
Although there is a big different in using eg, a pirated Windows, Photoshop or Word, that is mandated to use by students, workers and more, in many cases, because they are indeed greedy corporations.
Anyway all of that to say that I believe a cheaper price can mean a bigger return, at the very least in some markets.

The websight Bitwigbeats.com supposedly has a store planned when bitwig is released. I don't know how credible they are.ThomasHelzle wrote:

I agree with this idea, but has such a feat ever been successfully pulled off in recent years? Most of these programs took numerous years and full version releases to get up to the level of functionality they are today. With DAWs becoming increasingly sophisticated and the number of included plugins continuing to grow, this seems like an almost insurmountable task for a small company to achieve with a 1.0 release. You can't even aim for today anyway because all of your competitors are also continually moving forward as well. Quite the conundrum.TheoM wrote:Sorry but I think a one point o int TODAYS world needs to be competitive with what's already out there feature wise. In fact, maybe that's just me, but if I was releasing a daw, I'd not only make sure it matched the current others in terms of every feature, I would add something that made it even better on top, to steal business.

^yeah, also you can't just choose to create something great that nobody's ever thought of to add to your new daw.
Bitwig has enough that sets it apart to have a customer base. Specifically it's... Live but better.
