That's what this thread is about. I don't read (what you call) "hate" about the product itself.

Post

I've worked on this for over a year. :) Three completely different GUI revisions and this is the best one.

Be nice, people. It's a really REALLY great sounding product. Trust me! What I find really useful about it is that the reversed samples are of equal length for ALL keys, and this is not done by using time stretching (as far as I was made aware by Output guys). So you can play a really wide reversed chord and all notes will end at the same time. This is especially useful in the Rises instrument.

Any questions about the library itself, please direct it at me, I'll answer what I can. Just don't ask me anything about marketing. But I will answer any and all relevant questions that pertain to Rev's capabilities.

Hm, not sure. Look at the first few posts. It's not that the people discuss the marketing only, but they also say that the product itself is silly, and that anybody can reverse something etc. pp.

Anyway, I will probably try this thing - personally, I like the sound and what I can see from the walkthroughs. And I am all for ultra-modern marketing. :D

EvilDragon, so let us know about it... Or should we start a new thread on the product itself (and not the marketing)?

Post

Just fire away with questions. There are two walkthrough videos that show a bit of what Rev is about:

I suspect the Output guys are going to create an official thread in Samples section, where discussion about this really belongs.

Post

I was personally having more fun with the seriousness of both sides of this. Even though I can see both sides of it through the over zealous reactions and defenses, I can't take any of it too seriously. But what makes me laugh at the product is mostly the price. Really thinks too highly of itself for what it is and how much a person might actually use it. I've listened/watched the demos, and like much that is marketed today, the first video is perhaps a bit over the top, which can make many laugh. Samples I heard are nice, but not 200 hundred USD nice. And I'm one of those lazy types that might prefer to buy instead of work them out myself. But it goes on the list of purchase possibles only if I win some lottery to throw money away on something like this. Put out a 50% introductry price, and maybe I would give it a second thought. Well, maybe, but TBH it's still pretty far down my list of needs or desires.

Post

Remember that licencing a Kontakt Player library costs some serious money. MSRP has to be a bit higher then. But in all honesty, a LOT of work went into this library, and I'm certain if you put a lot of work into something, you wouldn't like to sell yourself short.

I just find it amazing that this is the way KvR welcomes a completely new company, with its usual bitchfest. Calm down people.

Yes, we hear that all the time, but the simple math here is a price per usefullness for most of us, and it comes out to not such a great value in that respect. I have a short list of Kontakt desires that run as much and even more than this product, and price dictates which are the more important to me.

Like I said, if it makes it to 'my Kontakt list', it's really far down at the bottom. And I'm sure other things will pop up to keep putting it farther down that list. Maybe there will be others who need it more than everything else out there and they can exist in that elitism. It could happen.

Post

OK, that's you, I'm sure there are others out there that are more interested in what Rev is about, then. I will just say that the price reflects the work inputted into the library fairly well.

Any actual questions about the library, please?

Like I said,

"Maybe there will be others who need it more than everything else out there and they can exist in that elitism. It could happen."

But since this thread started on such a disparaging tone and defensive replies, wouldn't it be better to start a more positive thread for the product and in the proper forum for samples instead?

Post

Yes - the Output guys will do that in Samples section with their official KvR account, I'm sure, in their morning (it's sleep time over in USA, and they haven't slept for the past week impeding this release :)).

I don't think it would be good etiquette from me to do that in their stead. After all, I'm not a part of Output, I'm a freelancer.

Post

Just listened to two videos in backwar...erm...forward mode.

I bet one example in the loops vid is made with good ol' Steampipe from Reaktor. I'm almost sure, say 92%.

Oh wait, the may sue me for this short excerpt (reading from the watermark feature description).

I actually didn't want to sound too defensive, really, but I am not a native speaker, so not getting the tone right is to be expected... Anyway, you are right about starting a different thread for the product itself.

Loved that Music and the whole Video Presentation......and after watching the walkthrough videos, I'm now really impressed........Great Job guys. :)

And,in my book, you were not (defensive). Just re-establishing facts VS people claiming that it could be done by just reversing their sample folders.

Instruments tend to be more complex nowadays, and its not rare seeing people (over?)reacting to a few words they have extracted of a global blurb, and making fun of it, because well, its a nice way to spend time. We've seen that for many products, including a lot of the products that try to offer something -more or less- different.

So adding information is usefull, and pertinent. Not defensive ( wich also implies some people have been offensive btw, wich is their right, after all )

Tbh I've myself seen some products where my first impression was " Hmmm We've already seen that". To finally find out that differences and uniqueness there were, inside.

Not directly related, but still : The instrument market is overcrowded, and it is -just- my opinion that some people try to reinsure themseleves in the fact they have choosen the good "standard", the graal of some particular needs/desires they desperatly search answers for, the thing that makes it all etc etc ( like reversing samples). For this kind of people, difference is not a plus, its a failure. To me its not : Difference = richness = life = music.

Is there some rythmic/percussion/drums reverse samples and related paradigms ?

For instance à step sequencer locked to the attack of the reversed drum samples, and is there a lookahead fonction to fix possible synchronisation issues ?

It makes à long Time (i've debated and opened a few thread on the purpose when i first came at kvr in 2002) i've tried to figure out how to incude bacward-tape instruments and effects indo sequenced composition, so i' m curions to see how a company has faced such a challenge

:tu: :tu: :tu:

p.S. ...sorry for the Typos, i' new on touch screen tablets
