Cheers Tom, thanks for looking.
From what I've seen, it could be similar.
Which in my book is a good thing

I should have been clearer, though I think Tom understood was I was getting at. My comments were more along the line of midi sent on multiple channels. Live does not handle that well at all.Ogopogo wrote:Live does allow multiout: http://www.native-instruments.com/knowl ... leton+Live
I'm not big on multiout either though. It seems much simpler to stick each thing on it's own track and not worry about routing.
For instance... Quartz (Artificial Audio) will allow output of cc messages from a couple lfos and four different MSEG's. However, you can't send that info from track to track in Live because it will combine all channels into one. I'm not complaining about Live as much as I am hoping some other host will provide that functionality without me having to jump through a lot of hoops. Another example would be using Consequence (Sugarbytes) to drive 3 separate sound sources from the one sequence. And since you have the option of bypassing its chord sequences and just using your own the plugin got (I used to own it) a lot more mileage in my studio as a pretty decent arp. There is a work around to deal with the midi issue but it could be easier. And I know Kontakt can output midi on multiple channels as well as a few others. Just sayin...
On another note... I'll have to give Usine a look if BWS doesn't pan out...

Hell, with all the cool stuff bitwig does that's been told to us by Thomas I might be interested when it come out! Ok, no I can't afford it, but it's fun to follow the info! A mixture of info and cats is the.............puuuurrrrfect blend.
(OH GOD HIBIDY HOW MANY TIMES!!!!!!!)

Depends on the plugin. In Consequence the plugin itself allowed for midi-out straight to an external port. So I routed it out to the IAC bus and then back into Live. That made it posible to route each channel to a separate track. However, this setup does have a bit of latency. In other situations I used Bidule as a plugin and did the routing inside of Bidule. Even though it worked it was not the optimal solution.ezelkow1 wrote:Just wondering, whats the work-around?UncleAge wrote: There is a work around to deal with the midi issue but it could be easier. I'm really glad the Bitwig folks lifted the NDA allowing people to discuss it prior to release. This will be a really important factor in helping temper the intense buildup of interest over such a long gestation period. The more time that passes before release, the more unrealistic people's expectations can get for a v1.0 product. If we know more about what it can and cannot do beforehand, the response should be a lot more even handed. Otherwise you get blindsided by a cacophony of "after all this time and this is it?!" I have no doubt BW will do some things brilliantly, but be sorely lacking in other areas depending on what various users are looking for in a DAW. Such is the way of these things. With products this complex, maturity takes time over the course of multiple revisions and is rarely a quick evolution.

if it has a solid workflow that is inspiring and makes me happy to use.. then i can overlook a few limitations or shortcomings..
i've been using audio mulch for going on 14 years now and it is built around a certain set of ideas and the choices the designer made make it something i find really inspiring and musical and useful etc...
obviously.. bitwig is going for a larger user base and a different set of ideas/goals etc but i think if they stick to whatever their ideas about how it should work and what the goals are then i bet it'll be something that's really attractive to a lot of people.. even it if doesn't have everything and the kitchen sink thrown into it.

Tronam: Fully agree. And although it sometimes felt a bit like letting people down when I had to talk about things that aren't there or not there yet, in the end I also think it's for the good.
dayjob: Very well said.
Uncle Age: There is a free version of Usine to give you a taste of what to expect. Version 6.x codename "Hollyhock" is still in the shakedown phase (first public beta was out in spring), but I recommend trying it out anyway, since there are some really amazing concepts to be had. Clever stuff like only those VST-parameter ports showing up on the nodes that you move in the GUI (in the earlier version some nodes were 2 screens long with all the parameters
). They just recently added Arduino, Serial, Leapmotion and Wiimote support and are constantly improving it.
So my hope is up that the timeline and the VST version will be back too.
Cheers,
Tom
