Thanks Diego. Nice to know it works for someone other than me!

I've no idea about reactor
WOK wrote:mmhh - this skin folder placement system is a little weird.
The bigger problem is, that the synth eats up my dual core completely and starts to crackle after inserting any of the two filters and play two chords....
I know the 12db filter is a bit faulty. I intend to replace it with some other code.
I've not experienced any issues with the formant filter at all.
On my PC.. {Asus K55a laptop, i7 6GB HD4000 Win7 Home Premium} + Orion I only use 1% per voice.

I'm really sorry for the problems you are having.

I started writing the code for this synthesizer as a way to use my patch cable modules in
one last synthesizer made with Synthedit. (Could it be Synthedit itself causing these problems as i've already made some VSTi's using the Steinberg VSTSDK without any of this messing about)?
Anyway I will rewrite the entire GUI section so that it doesn't rely on any external bitmaps
but that means no one else can skin it. I also wanted to use a similar folder system for wavetables and samples later on which might not happen now.
Oh well :(

For the GUI: wouldn't it be possible to use system variables like %appdata%\patchwork to use one fixed folder in the user dir?

About CPU: my PC is an older dual core 2GHz, Asio 6ms/256 buffer, but I don't have these problems with other synths. Crackle starts in poly mode with both filters and playing two or three chords. Maybe the poly mode in Synthedit is set for way too much voices and there is something wrong about gate or envelope that prevent the generated voice & filter paths from stopping?

I had the gui issue just once but all the other times I launched the PWMS with "Savi host", "Vst host" and "Cantabile" everything worked out well :-)

..but it would be great if you're able to leave it skinnable even if you're rewriting its code, as it's cool, I'm working on a custom gui in my spare time :-)

Thanks again for sharing it.

Thanks Diego, I will provide a menu option to use 3rd party skins.

Ok guys, I've embedded the skin graphics in the program.
Delete ALL the previous files and copy the updated *.DLL file into your VST plugins directory.

Please remember it's still in beta.

GUI is working, but CPU overload is the same when I insert any filter into the standard patch between OSC and output and play some chords. Holding a chord will make CPU load drop after some seconds. Alternating two chords produces löess CPU overload than changing several chords - I think it has to do with the polyphony voice generation.

So from what I'm reading here it seems to be Reaktor and FL Studio that are having problems
with it. Unfortunately I have no experience with either but I'll see what I can do.

Thanks Wok. This update was really just about getting the skin to load.
I'll see about making some optimizations to reduce the CPU load, but I still only get 1% per
voice on my i7 with a basic patch.

Thanks to everyone for trying it out :)

Yes please do it :tu:
your synth is fun and building its skin is fun as well :)
Looking forward it!
Thanks again Kirsty :)

Hi Kirsty,

just downloaded this synth. Unfortunately, for me in reaper (32 bit) on Windows 7 (x64) there is still no GUI. Interestingly, Reaper also only reports 6 parameters in it's own primitive UI for the synth:

Gui Connections
Gui Control
Gui Knob Values
Gui Module Types
Gui Selector Values
patchvalues

I do get a sound (some SAW with release), but the sound does not change if I change any of the above values. If I chose another patch, there is no sound, only on preset 1.

The directory with the SE modules seems to be unpacked correctly. I see 4 module files:

PATCHWORK_MODULAR_SYSTEM_DSP.SEM
PATCHWORK_MODULAR_SYSTEM_GUI.SEM
PATCHWORK_SYSTEM_CONTROL.SEM
VOICEMUTE.SEM

To test it yourself, you can download a trial version from http://www.reaper.fm.

I hope you manage to fix the problem, as I am looking forward to try this very interesting looking synth.

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martin, thanks for your interest in my synthesizer.

Yep, 6 parameters is correct. There are only 5 modules in the entire synthesizer.
I still don't know why some hosts can't see the GUI though.

A basic saw sound to test it with. I haven't made any more patches while it's in beta.

Eventually I will try it in most host programs, but I hate installing software just to try
things out. I only have one laptop and am never happy with all the 'bloatware' that windows
programs seem to leave behind. I recently fixed a lot of bugs in the program so it's improving all the time.

That's not the case with Reaper because you can make a portable installation without any bloatware.

Post

Even the non-portable, full installation of reaper is very small. Furthermore, reaper does not use any registry entries, etc.

I use mainly reaper and savihost for my own developments, including debugging.

Cheers,
Martin
