I-Drums...sample library or BFD killer?

I really need to get some realistic sounding drums in my tracks, however almost more importantly I need riffs that sound like a real drummer to go with them. BFD's midi slices seem to allow a lot of options here with fills and such...I've never used it but it sounds like it has this. Will I-Drums come with a library of midi riffs, or is this mainly a detailed sample set?

I've been wanting to check out Artist Drums too. I have BFD. It's really cool. I-Drums is more of an intense library with a ton of variety of individual drums and kits with great expression across the keyboard.
Here's what I think. BFD's biggest strength is the mixing capability and has an appeal to those that want to play kits and work like a sound engineer. The midi files are well done although they may or may not have the particular beats you are looking for. I find that programming new beats with it not as controllable as I-Map. Of course I am the most used to the I-Map so I WOULD feel that way!
But, seriously, I thought BFD was maybe better for input midi from drum kit pads than from the keyboard. There's just not as much expression ACROSS the keys to my taste. I think there are certain kinds of midi files that you can do with I-Map (I-Drums and other SR titles) that you really can't do with anything else. I think that's why products like Interactive Drum Kits, Studio Drum Capsule and Acoustic Drum eROM do very well.
I don't know how artist drums was done but I am assuming it's maybe beat slices? I personally think that can be real limiting. Although, it still all depends on how good the material is. With the lists of artists on that disc it could be worth getting just because those drummers are great.
To answer your question, we do plan to have I-Map beats for I-Drums and all I-Map SR drum products too. We've been working on it for several years now. I don't know if it will come with I-Drums yet but since we're going to be releasing it this Summer I may know for sure a bit later.
I hope that helps.

Wow. We've been getting a lot of emails and calls about I-Drums. By the way, it's not really called I-Drums. That's turned out to be the short name of it. I changed it because I saw Art's little Apple thingy. I wasn't too thrilled to tell you the truth because we announced it before he did. But, since his is out already... ah, I've got a cool theme going with it that you'll see. You won't believe what the big plan is with it but it's sort of like the Vienna Symphony of drum libraries.
It's also the biggest drum library in existence at the moment. BFD is 9 gigs? DFH is 35? This is over 40gigs and over 60 with both 48K and 96K. I don't know if it will end up being released that way. I think there are over 300,000 samples on it????? It takes us several hours just to move it from hard drive to another! It's a monster. We'll have to do a lighter version too.
But for those that want the best playable drum kits we could do... this would be a dream!

Gaaaah! First Kirk Hunter’s new 300 GB library and now this!Squids wrote: This is over 40gigs and over 60 with both 48K and 96K. I don't know if it will end up being released that way. I think there are over 300,000 samples on it?????
I recently bought a 160 GB FW hard drive thinking I’d be set for years.

Please tell me you're kidding. 300 gigs? Okay, there does come a point where it's just big for big's sake. With the I-Drums we had a particular amount of dynamics and alternates and at 96K for the amount of kits, snares etc. it comes to over 40 gigabytes. Like I said, we might even shave that down in the end or just release it it in 48K or less mic options etc. But, I sure hope you are kidding about Kirk Hunter. If not, what is it? An orchestra? Man, I don't know... I know he did a 40 gig brass library although I haven't heard a thing about it.Yossarian wrote:Gaaaah! Yeah...slowly the developpers go insane. I am also a fan of big libraries but at a certain amount of samples it gets unhandy.
And I assume they make the sizes so big in order to make a copying & sharing via internet difficult.
Seems as the syllable "Mega" slowly becomes unimportant like once "kilo" went peanuts...."Giga" seems to be the new measure..

Get the new "SBD"!!! Silent But Deadly orchestra! It's 500 Terabytes and includes every sound from the day a violin was crafted in the shop to the day it's thrown out! Hear the hammering of the wood! Hear the smash into the trash can and EVERYTHING in between! Hear me curse the Vienna on the lowest keys. But I WILL get revenge! How dare they make a library larger than mine! I'll show them! I'll make a library larger than any hard drive! I'll make a library that, that is so big you want to puke! It'll have no loops and I will make my string players bow notes back and forth until they fall over... and, and I'll sell it for a price that that that is umm LESS than the Vienna! If you buy it I'll even come over your house and play violin along with it to mask the imperfections and make it sound more real!
As reference this library also includes recordings of every classical song ever made as well as all of the Britney Spears videos and anything else I could find to pad the size.
Purchase now and save a hundy!
Love and kisses,
K

I like to be a comedian on the side.
Yes, there will be I-Map midi grooves for sale and also for free. I don't know what will coincide with the timing of the release of I-Drums though as both sides are HUGE projects (the midi files and the sound files). It's really hard to manage a 40 gigabyte library I have to tell you. I can't imagine what sort of horrible life a developer would have if they were doing a 350 gigabyte library... or even the user waiting for the install! lol
We'll probably release the 96K material although I personally would use the 48K version. There just comes a point where you can get lost in insanity. I am just interested in great usable material whatever the size of it is.
