Tone2 Nemesis is released!

The sounds in the demo vid are remarkably similar to all other tone2 synths. It's funny hearing all these same blurbs like "sounds that are impossible with other synths" just like with ray blaster etc. But then they all kind of sound like gladiator don't they?

Repeating the same phrases again and again throughout the video is just sad. I got it that it uses NeoFM Synthesis the first time. I get that it's "No less than___".

Well I think that the same could be said for all the hardware synths out there since the early '80s: they are all the same (according with mine plumber ). But we know it's not true and we know that some of them can produce unique sounds very hard to reproduce with other instruments, despite the fact they are used to produce music recognizable by every person.

I can understand that when a new synth is released people expect to hear "something" coming from another dimension able to transcend human understanding (I've been always affected by this disturb as well! ) so it's easy to be disappointed when the "only" thing you have are some audio demos which, from a musical point of view, sounds like something from ehm... Earth. By the way you'll have to put your hands on it and judge the instrument in a objective way as an electronic musician and not as someone waiting for a contact with an alien being

I can accept that someone without experience can think that an instrument like, for example, Rayblaster do not sounds unique (this is fine for someone that can't tell the difference between a Casio toy and a Roland Fantom or do not want to "waste" time tweaking his own sounds), but I can't accept it from someone that have interests in synthesizers because do not make sense.


Concerning the video itself I like it a lot (in a sexual way ).

About the overall sound of Nemesis: I think it sounds great, I don't know what's going on under the hood, but one of the first things that attracted my attention as I started to play with it is the "pure" sound of the instrument. I always stated (in a lot of those epic "hardware vs software" threads) that all VST instrument have a muddy sound compared to hardware stuff (IMO). Well Nemesis is the first synth that I judge at the same level of hardware synths in terms of audio quality.


Another great thing about it is the variety of sound you can get from it. You can create modern sounds, incredible weird stuff if you want, but it can also create those classic FM sounds typical of the Yamaha FM expanders from the past that I used to like a lot I like it a lot for organ sounds, basses, arpeggiated stuff, electric pianos... I've also created some orchestral stuff using only Nemesis, I will share it as soon as possible. Well in short: I'm sure this synth will be a great surprise for a lot of people.

Hahaha, what a joke video. I literally laughing here. Oh my dear god. It's like 80's TV-Shop commercial, in very bad way, hah. And that sound, it sounds just like all their synths. Thin, cold and plastic. Priceless sh*t. Thanks for saving my day, Tone2, ahahah.

I don't think that is true... there are a lot of educated ears who do not look for something 'they have never heard before'. Many people want to hear the sounds they know, presented well, and an explanation of how this synth gets to them easier.

The idea that this is an FM synth that is easier to use is presented. But then the video has almost no classic FM sounds and does not explain at all how/why it is supposedly easier to use.

I've made fairly unique sounds in Rayblaster. I could make similar sounds in Zebra or some other modular environment, with a lot of patching and a bit of experimentation, but the results I got with Rayblaster were different and engaging enough to me to warrant a purchase.

And while it's blurb about the "impulse modelling" that is supposed to go on in the synth donesn't impress me (I've explained the synth before in terms of time domain operations), that doesn't detract from the fact that it's a really clever setup and makes awesome sounds.

Just like I don't think "Harmonic Content Morphing" is *Really* a new type of synthesis, but merely a clever and interactive form of wavetable creation with some unique features, it doesn't stop Gladiator from being a really inspiring bit of kit. (If you think about it, Harmonic Content Morphing isn't even a METHOD of synthesis - it's the goal of ALL synthesis! It says nothing of how the morphing is achived, unlike real synthesis types, such as Phase Distortion or PWM + subtractive)

And if this dumb marketing is really helping them sell synths, good on them! It keeps them in business and doesn't harm my perception of their synths, because I've learned to discard everything that comes from their marketing department.

+1. I couldn't care less about how their market their stuff. Tone2 make really cool and interesting synths. I am glad they even try to push the boundaries. Otherwise we'd have less choice.

Rayblaster I found to be very very cool for all kind of weird stuff, especially sample manipulation.

I think there are a lot of "recognizable" sounds in the video presentatiion.

BTW I fully understand your point, but this is just a promo video and not a detailed tutorial. I'm sure that more informations and sound demos will be available when the product will be released; there will be also a downloadable demo I suppose.
