Echo-audio Indigo REALLY looks cool, but I want 6 chanels, not 4 (4-out,2-in)

M-Audio Audiophile / omni, ..... cool, but a bit large (and ugly) and I've heard USB isn't such a good idea if you want more than 2 chanels...

RME-Audio, no idea, you tell me. Looked at the website, tried to make sense of it, left.

Any other options guys?

What I want is a system where I can possibly hook up a DJ-mixer to a program like Traktor, but I also want some inputs for fun audio processing...

HELP!

I'm stuck like you. I'm thinking about the indigo also but I'd need stereo in and 2 stereo outs.

I use the RME Cardbus and Multiface - it is totally rock solid and sounds great. Never once had a problem.

that's you when you got a rme hdsp cardbus interface with a multiface on your laptop.
Works like a breeze on every system
doesn't use any of your cpu as long as you don't use fx or vst synths, even if you're playing 32 audio tracks
very nice measurement tools included (spectrum analyser, etc...)
go for it if you can.

This may be a newbie-ish question

, but is it even possible to run large numbers of audio tracks on laptops? Do standard 5400 rpm have enough bandwidth to run all those tracks(say, 32 tracks of 24bit 44.1 khz)?

yeah, bandwidth enough, but that's not really the question anyway: I don't want to record, I want to process and spit out again

Remeber : stereo @ 44.1KHz is only 0.3MB/second.

"32 tracks of 24bit 44.1 khz"

= 24 (bit) * 44100 (samples/sec) * 32 (tracks) = 33868800 bit / second
= 4MB / second

Modern drives -even the slow ones- should average above 10MB/second. Of course you need to be carefull with that number, but it SHOULD manage!

My feelings precisely, this card would be perfect for me otherwise. As it is, I'm considering the M-Audio Firewire Audiphile...

Indeed, but have you checked out the M-Audio Firewire Audiophile* - its not much more than the USB model. The only downside is unless your laptop has a 6-pin firewire socket (most only have a 4-pin one), it will need to be externally powered.

It has 2 analogue inputs, 4 analogue outputs, as well as digital S/PDIF (coaxial) I/O w/ 2-channel PCM and MIDI in/out.
