One thing I hope for with Sample Tank 3 is that compressed audio format start being used, like Kontakt's ncw.
Just checking my SampleTank folder I got 17,5 gigs there, I believe that load could have been compressed to half using FLAC or other lossless wav compressors

Edit - I misread, sorry about that. IOS APPS do not, I could have sworn I read that. iOS hardware will. At least now I can clarify that. But I do apologize for misreading that. But I still don't recommend buying iOS accessories with the long-term goal of using JamPoints for SampleTank 3. I'm glad I didn't make that recommendation either way, and I wouldn't have recommended it that directly. I'd recommend storing JamPoints for more short-term goals, especially when there was a longer gap in when SampleTank 3 could be expected.neverenoughfunk wrote:first off... you are not the only ik multimedia rep on the internet... and i will be the first to say that you did not make that comment... but it has been made... on several occasions...Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:

just hoping you are not implying that i am lying... because it has been said by an ik multimedia rep (but not you)...

i am not going to search for those posts... but if you have the time go to futureproducers.com they are there... no question about that... because i felt offended when i read them... i.e. WOW!!!Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:Send me the post(s) and I'll educate them then. This should be common knowledge as all reps should be aware that iTunes purchases do not generate JamPoints and they should be versed in the contents found at this link: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/jampoints Thanks. I'd appreciate the info.neverenoughfunk wrote:first off... you are not the only ik multimedia rep on the internet... and i will be the first to say that you did not make that comment... but it has been made... on several occasions...Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:

Every piece of software is different, and I explained in the post I reference. I'm not spinning anything, it was a better decision to go fully into SampleTank 3 than to update the existing codebase based on the state of the code of a product that was created so long ago. I'm sorry that you don't like the answer, but it is the truth and a fully valid reason and answer. It has zero to do with "what we think of the customer" and everything to do with the time it would take to port older code vs further delay of SampleTank 3. I know you are frustrated, but that is the reasoning and it has been stated before and it can be spun into some evil reasoning or I can rehash the same valid answer. It is your choice which to accept.Bombadil wrote:How do you account for the fact that most, if not all, of the major players in the industry updated their software gratis for their current customers? Please. We are talking about all the plugins that were originally designed and released as 32 bit, undergoing the necessary coding to make them 64 bit compatible. And IK Multimedia didn't think enough of their current customers to do likewise? That's what it certainly looks like to me, and to many others, regardless of how IKM wants to spin this.Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:.
Also, I see the myth that a 64-bit update to the existing code would be simple. That is not true, and I post plenty of information about this in my post with the numbered list. Please also remember to refer to that as the FAQ of sorts for many of the things that are coming up again and again in this thread.
Again - every product is different and unless you have direct knowledge of the SampleTank code, then you are unfortunately incorrect in those assumptions.

And I account for the fact that OUR company did in fact provide 64-bit updates for multiple products (T-RackS, AmpliTube, ARC), gratis, where possible. Even products from the same company can be different and require a different approach.Bombadil wrote:How do you account for the fact that most, if not all, of the major players in the industry updated their software gratis for their current customers? I've found the thing that sells me or sells me off a product is their customers more than the product itself. It's probably the biggest factor in keeping me away from Spectrasonics (I almost swear it comes with a neuro pathway block).
The constant 'quid pro quo' for this product concerns me only a little, since it seems to be generated mostly by those that have had the product for a very long time and more upset by what seems a not too irrational depreciation of it over time.
It reminds me of the period between when I worked my 1st music store and my 2nd music store. (Which was about 3 years while working a government gig). But knowing the mark up on products made it unbearable for me to buy anything during that time. (Fortunately, since I had bought my guitar strings and sticks by the case with my 1st store, I didn't need much). But when I did need something, I was always infuriated by knowing their cost and what they expected me to pay. It took some time for me to mature enough to realize that infuriation only worked against me.
Certainly, the one thing that turns me off quicker than anything is being schmoozed when I can see it has become a clear lie. But schmoozing by itself is a flag to watch for, but not an end to the dealing.
So I have a 'wait and see attitude on this. And try not be part of this fray for the most part. But it puts Peter on the track of 'putting out these little fires' and keeps him from giving us more information elsewhere. If indeed there is more to give...
Being a 'new consumer' to this product, I so far, have had everything that has been promised delivered as and when stated. And since I read these threads to gleem any possible information about the product, find the discontent of 'old consumers' in bitter anticipation leading to nothing more than attacking something they obviously are still using; somewhat dichotomous, and maybe slightly, schizophrenic.
I'm also starting to think Peter would be better off just ignoring those flames and letting them burn themselves out.
Any word on upgrade pricing Peter?

So far,
Good deal on multiple products. Great support.
Improvements announced that addresses immediate wants:
{An easier on the eyes GUI and 64b (Although 32b works great).}
If I had bought it when it first came out, I would expect to have paid a lot more because there's always a higher price for being 'the first on the block'.
This has been a great entry level into a product(s) that is quite usable to me. And that is not to say I love everything about it, but what it does for me it does quite well.

BBFG#, I go more blind every time I try to read you signature
I am going to attempt to stop trying to read it but I want to ask a favor;
If your arsenal changes can you enhance the type size so I don't miss the changes?
Now, back to topic. Thanks!

Only that there is a plan to have an upgrade path that should make our long-time SampleTank users happy (and it will be quite nice for more recent SampleTank users too), from what I'm told. I cannot specify pricing of any sort at this point.BBFG# wrote: Any word on upgrade pricing Peter?

But here is the arsenal signature:
Sonar X3cPro; Alchemy; Aria; AAS; IKM; Iris; KLC; K9U; Synthmaster; Wusik; Zebra2/HZ
I also have some older stuff I don't list (Novation & EMU) and it seems simpler to list the package more than what I actually use out of it. Which would be Alchemy; GIO; Chromaphone; String Studio; SampleTank; MSO; Reaktor; Synthmaster (but only the Ubukata sets); WusikStation V7; Zebra2/HZ.
And the new 'kid': Iris.
Sometimes Rapture; Z3ta+2; Absynth gets a play too. And I have a list of the ones I'm kind of disappointed in ATM (Kontakt mostly, Dimension some). Sampletank has been the first of the sample players for me to search for certain sounds. MSO & GIO run neck & neck and sometimes used together.
Add: I also have a few of the HG Fortune synths, which WusikStation V7 has pretty much replaced.

i predict that the sampletank 3 release will be "announced" at NAMM in January... and the actual release date will be the end of the first quarter 2014...
