Winamp was my first (mediaplayer) and it will be my last... :help:

Seriously, I still use it and I've never had problems with it. It's still a great media player, and Shoutcast is great, too.

Why do they abandon good working things?

Alternative: AIMP.

Less crap bundled, portable usability, just as fast and suitable

Stupid comment is stupid. :P

Using this thing for quite a while now. As portable version (which can be found through Portable Apps). It's a bit hard to setup at first, but it's low profile and a great MP3/WAV/AAC player.

Aww.
I still use Winamp. The lite version with the skin it wore in when I first used it in the 90s, no less.

It's really a piece of poo. It launches like lightning and keeps on that pace, but other than that and fuzzy feelings of nostalgia it's bereft of all those goodies that the modern players have brought us, album art, sorting, advanced search, clever playlist generation, decent get-up...

...and yet. I've tried quite a few and I still stick with my trusty Winamp. I basically use it as a giant list that I carelessly bung songs into. For years. With a playlist tens of thousands of items long, unless it's something I've just bought, by now I can usually just press 'j' and jump straight to what I want.

Sophisticated? Not by a long chalk, but it's the way I've grown to like navigating my collection and Winamp supports it better than anything. I can literally scroll up to a random point in the list and find out what I was listening to years ago, in the order I heard it.

Winamp is dead, long live Winamp!

Sad day indeed! I never got onboard with the more recent incarnations which seemed like resource-gluts to me, always stuck to trusty v5.13, with that sexy LCARS Star Trek skin someone made, along with a few useful but legacy plugins that wouldn't work in the newer versions. I recently, finally, grudgingly moved from XP to Windows 7 and was so relieved it still worked without a hitch. My computer wouldn't feel like home without it. 21 llama ass salute to one of the highlights of a golden age!

Used Winamp lite for while, as the full Winamp was too bloated with stuff i don't need, but switched to AIMP - light, fast, great as a default player for audio files.
Still, kudos to Winamp for being the software that started it all.

foobar2000 or resonic alpha.

I will certainly miss it if and when I change my Android phone. I ddidn't find any media player that was better than it. So sorry it will go away.
