Sorry, I tried the demo ages ago and can't remember.

In Producer, can you record a vsti in audio rather than midi real time. ??

And how does Sudio One handle latency for a hardware send out to outboard and back into the DAW with a return input. ??

Yes. You can select any instrument's output as an input source for an audio track directly and just record it. No routing required.

The Pipeline plugin for that only comes in the Pro version.

I'm tempted to upgrade to professional for $99.
Anyone know if professional comes with the full melodyne editor?

Post

No, it comes with a Melodyne Essential license. The Melodyne Editor software costs more than Studio One so that would be some great bundle deal indeed.

Melo Essential is $99 by itself so the upgrade to Pro would kill two birds with one stone, get a free Essential License and some more S1 plugins.

Cool, thanks LawrenceF, may give it another try.

You're welcome.

If you don't already have a decent convo verb, it's almost a no-brainer to upgrade from Producer to Pro for $99 just to get Open Air (and Groove Delay), even if you won't use the other stuff it brings.

Open Air is a really nice verb with a pretty complete IR library.

Good luck to you.

Hey thanx. The GUI's sure are glossy.

Another query, how does Producer handle a vsti's latency, say a U-He synth adding 64 samples...when recording it as audio. ?? Is there a menu 'record with latency compensated' option ??

Post

No idea. I'd assume (without knowing) that in cases where you can't adjust for latency directly, in real time, you'd adjust the placement of the recorded audio instead.

Test it in the demo and see how it works for you. As long as it all lines up, sounds right, I wouldn't spend too much time thinking about how it happens.

S1 has delay compensation build in (enabled by default of course)

Yeah, I think he meant during real time playing / recording of a VI where maybe it can't be compensated for directly, I was saying that I guess in that case it's compensated for with the "placement" of the audio result.

Not that a 64 sample offset would even be detectable in most cases if it didn't... but dunno. I suppose one way to test it would be to play a live VI realime with really high latency (1024, something really bad) while recording and see what the result sounds like. I'd guess that the audio would be placed where you hit the keys on the keyboard, not where the 20ms late audio is sounding while you're playing it.

Post

yes, i mixed this up. sorry! of course for recording it would make more sense not to have pdc on.

I'll try things out, before the special finishes, thanks again for your patience, could have found this stuff out myself with a little digging.

Is melodyne essentials the same version that we had free access to during a trial when I first purchased the producer edition? So it has melodyne integrated into the edit view and you can do audio to midi and all that?

If I ever upgrade to pro, it won't be because of the MD stuff. I don't sing, I hate the "autotune" effect and had the full version of MD and found it cool but taxing. I could just redo a part easier than going through all that mess :hihi:

Post

I think I will upgrade! I need the mastering section and the Open Air! I'm just waiting to see what other crazy deals will be cause I have only $200 to spend during this 'Black' period.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.
