What do you use?

I can't do music if I can't first take a listen to a rough draft in my car before mastering.

I also buy totally unrelated things to my music. Like this keychain! Some how it has helped me with my music.

Seriously?

I'm into video games. They exercise your brain (especially puzzle stuff, both passive and active) and tend to improve hand/eye coordination.

There is some truly excellent game content our there that really fires up the imagination, like Nintendo's Zelda.

I realized a while ago that some games really do connect you with other artists and their visions.

I know, re-reading my post it seems like a parody post or something that isn't serious. But have you ever just seen something and OF COURSE you like it, but then you're get this feeling like it will help you with your music is some strange way?

Holy shit...I need one! I use to have one but the bulb burnt out and before I could replace it I broke the bottle...haven't gotten one since. That was a LONG time ago too..

yep, darkened room, a knobby analogue synth(sliders just wont do) with blinking LFO led's...

the video game thing is a good one - i'm quite a gamer and the atmosphere in some games definitely inspires me to write. Anyone play the stalker games? I would imagine anyone into dark ambient would feel inspired after spending some time in that game.
