Hey Gang!

After a lengthy hiatus getting a new studio setup and addressing various other life demands ... I'm back on the RC bandwagon.

I checked out around 1.86 and checked in at 2.3. Three words come to mind: wow, wow and wow!

Stability issues seem totally gone ... both the program and VSTi seem to be running rock solid for me in Win7 x64. I haven't pushed anything too hard and I'm strictly outputting midi to either hardware standalone or hardware and softsynths VSTi ... not trying to host any VSTi in RC ... but no white screens!

The Melody Generator is fantastic. I do need to figure out a velocity noodle for dynamics, but I am sure I will.

Anyway, the first thing that struck me was the lack of rests for the melody lines produced by the Melody Generator (which I have a sneaking suspicion Attila plans to do something about).

But then I stumbled across 'Remove Note' in the variation editor. Using this you can define interval for rests in the generated melody. Works fantastic.

Just thought I'd share.

Glad you're enjoying the beta build... good tip for the MG!

Also, try using Manual Editing! That helps, too. :) Full customization of where you want the notes to be, and where you don't... works like rests, but not exactly...

True that ... but the variation 'Remove Note' selection let's you keep hitting that 'L' key to audition until you find something you really like.

Now, if we could only 'back space' or 'Cntrl+Z' to that one we should have chosen but let fly by. :)

Oops! I didn't realize I had a beta. So that's what that lowercase 'b' in the file name meant.

If I have misbehaved, sincere apology to Attila.

 That sounds like a really useful feature: the generator maintains a history of recent generations. A user would then be able to generate a bunch of phrases consecutively and then go back and cycle through each of them to audition and find the best "takes" of the bunch. Top it off with the ability to save any and all of these phrases in the generated history to the phrase library. No more regrets/worries about letting some decent generated ideas slip away because we were over-eager to hit that regenerate button again. :tu:

Oh no, this was MY idea :)
What about this: on the workspace over the phrases (over the top right corner) there would be a small left and right arrow and a number in between that shows you the number of generation.
E.g.

<| 5/7 |>
5th generation of the total of 7. When the last generation is displayed (e.g. 7/7) and you press the right arrow, a new generation will happen, but you can go back to any previous ones.

Thanks!
Attila

I think this part is already here: just hit the edit button at the bottom of each generator inspector, open the phrase editor and save it from there.

Of course, it's ALL your idea, Attila! But even the Emperor needs stewards.

Yes, this scheme sounds like a straight-forward and simple work flow. I'm for it.
