You people crack me up.
Ok one more time, there will be no VST support within Reason. They said that a million times and after talking to Tage at Namm, it wont happen.

Not at all. I am just sharing my joy with everyone.
I regularly spend hundreds on software, then i spend hundreds more upgrading that software. I spend much time learning this software that i aquired.
Then i rapidly throw it all away and format my hard-drive - because marketing screenshots of other unreleased and expensive software that i don't own or mastered yet just came out.
So i am just glad i can once again repeat it all again.

I think if they don't include VSTi support it *will* effect the sales of Reason 3. I would be very surprised if they do not include this function as it seems to be so high on the list of Reason users requests.toksin wrote:You people crack me up.

If they don't they don't. Their loss I guess. This is how market share is rapidly gained and lost. Ableton are trying to *stay ahead* not *stay where they are*. If Propellerhead just a add a raft of effects modules and better midi functions many for me will probably give it a miss.

You have to remember that being proactive is not the same thing as being active. They just sound similar. The important thing is to dialogue.donkey tugger wrote:Aye, loads of new stuff for you to not write any music with eh teach?pHz wrote:

Fair coment
At the moment I...
Make my loops and sounds in Reason
Jam in Live
Arrange in Trakton
Experiment in EnergyXT
Master in Sonar.
If the press release is to trusted then Id be able to cut out alot of the engineering and have fun. The way I see it, software is starting to work like I think intead me having to work the way programers think. Infact since I bought Live Ive been trying to get the rest of my studio to work like it.
I have learnt alot about how a studio and sounds works in a traditional sense using Logic, Sonar and Trackton.
From now on Live, EnergyXT (possibly Reason) are going to be the programs I update saving me alot of money, time and heartache.

I don't believe the Propellerheads folks should be worried. I think they should stay the course with what they are doing with Reason and it will fit nicely in the niche its already in. They have sold alot of copies of Reason, and I don't see why they wouldn't continue to do so. Its an all in one package that you don't need to buy VST's for, so you buy it once, learn how to actually use it and push it to its limits (if there are any), and make music.
I love Reason and will never abandon it for anything. I love Live and am sooo excited about v4, but that doesn't make me want to get rid of Reason! It can't do the things that Reason can do, nor will it be able to have the efficient CPU usage that Reason does. You load a monster VST in Live and it will eat the CPU whether its v3 or v4. VSTi's are going to bring up the CPU utilization and there's nothing that can be done about it.
Reason is so efficient, it makes an excellent counterpart to Live4. I will definitely sequence in both environments just like I do with Live3 and Reason2.5 with no qualms. I guess I look at Live as more of an extension to Reason then the other way around.

Good job Ableton! At least SOMEBODY is finally listening to what all us younger electronic musicians want in a sequencer.
*sigh* twenty years and finally somebody has the balls to break the Steinberg mold.
Take notes FLStudio and P5! People wont pay you for half-ass anymore with alternatives like Live.

So,...I've messed with Live 3 for several hours over a couple days now. I must have more to discover or something. Even with the added features coming in Live 4 I'm not finding anything new. Everything Live 4 promises to do for me are things I have been doing with Sonar since the release of Sonar 1. Live offers me some streamlining but little else.
What am I missing?

Do you only work in Arrangement view? Have you tried the Session view or do you only work left to right?MidiSwede wrote:So,...I've messed with Live 3 for several hours over a couple days now. Hey drez,
Yup, I've tried both views and the Session view is mainly what I noticed as more streamlined. The Session view is the only thing in Live 4 of any interest to me right now.
I'm still looking.
