Sorry, but you can't assume everybody has the same problems as you.
You have problems with YOUR setup and specific software. I don't have any of your problems with my 100+ channel projects.

I am sorry you guys are having problems with cubase.

I've been using cubase 7 only for 2 weeks, and i admit there are issues (plugins can't stay in front of the mixer, i liked the way variaudio was handled in previous versions, sometimes it crashes on exit) but i have to say that its been working beautifully for me.

But i admit i am kind of a cubase fanboy, since i started working with it since the atari days, i have tried all of the other programs, and they are great, i still can do my music with any program i can think of, but with cubase i feel like i am with a good old friend...

I am in windows 7 btw...

No I can't indeed.

Again, I am running an equivalent to a iMac 11,3 (which is a i7 870), though granted less RAM, but that shouldn't matter. I am also on one of the strongest/best available recording systems on the market: RME.

Apparently, there is something terribly messed up with RME in combination with Cubase, and I spent weeks on confirming this issue, and trying to fix it (reinstalls, rollback, etc). No solution.

Steinberg at least confirmed to me (through mail), that there is something wrong and needs further research. Things are already set in motion, I am in contact with Steinberg. But a fix won't happen in the near future. So I'm stuck with what you saw in that image.

Since I'm not the only one resporting issues with the ASIO engine, this is a fair warning. If you're one of the lucky people - so be it, use Cubase - it's still a great tool. But massively flawed. TheoM just confirmed that.

Again, I'd prefer Cubase over everything else. I set up a youth club project studio with Cubase at it's heart(!). If I'd hate it so much, I wouldn't go for it.

Though at this point in time, I really, really can not(!) recommend Cubase 7.x. Maybe 7.5 changes the game again, maybe even only C8. But C7.0x is full of issues and I really wasted way too much time on fixes already. So I only want to work - and I can't.

This is all I'm saying.

I am currently beyond words. For further testing purposes, I installed the RME HDSPe drivers v3.38. And the first thing that happened to me at 256 samples, the load increased by another(!) 15-20%. Again, with a rock test project (4 VSTi) and only a handful of VST.

Insanity!

So just for sh*ts and giggles, I thought "well, you have to reinstall your rig anyway (for the 5th time) - else you can't roll back drivers and see if this crap is still happening"... so I went ahead and installed ASIO4all.

And here's the kicker.

Before I could find out why the drivers were constantly crapping out on me (didn't want to sync the ADAT ports, only the SPDIF one), I had only 1/3rd of the load of the RME drivers.

After I got ASIO4all running perfectly, the load was about 5% less than RME, at the very same buffer size (tested 256, 512, 1024).

In direct comparison, the RME Drivers had a latency of like 21,8ms at 1024 samples, the ASIO4all ones had 22ms. About 15ms at 512 at the RME, 2ms higher in ASIO4all. And about 4-5ms at 256samples at the RME and merely 6ms with ASIO4all - but the ASIO load clearly exceeded 75% in this case.

If the Guard was on, the latency doubled - no matter which drivers.

So that shows me, that the drivers seem to work correctly.

Why? I recently installed Win7 Pro x64/SP1 on a Haswell i5 with a Digidesign MBox2. And that one didn't want to work properly with Cubase 7 LE, also had a moderate high latency. So I fired up ASIO4all and what do you know... works, better latency, no issues. Here, the available ASIO drivers were clearly crap.

That means... unless the RME ASIO Drivers v3.085 work flawlessly (as it was told to me) and suddenly the ASIO load is very low on my current rig, something is very wrong with Cubase. And I knew that since I filed my first report to Steinberg and which they always denied.

And now that C7.5 is pretty much on front doors, and that particular problem still not being adressed... well... wasted half a year just for testing and optimizing.

I feel like using a Single Core PC all over again, rather than a Quad Core rig that has about the same processing power than a still fairly modern iMac 11.3!

Cubase 7 - Unlimited crushes

Postby Crossroads » 28 Nov 2013 18:34
I just got my Cubase 7 yesterday...

Installed, and it looks.. hm.. not so good ... I am trying to add 2 new VST paths form from the old Cubase 6.5 since Steinberg was NOT able to inclue an automatic scan of it's own Steinberg folder both in the Program Files + the Program files x86...

How long do we have to wait in order to buy something that actually works fine without loosing 1 day- and still - problem not solved...

I manually add a new path to the vst - i try to update and it crashes.. I thought to wait.. not just once... but wait.. wait.. wait..
UP until now this is one big piece of crap... where crap in my language means some sort of FISH...

I used to love Cubase but since 4.5 i hate it.. 6 was ok.. now 7 break me into pieces.. HEY GUYS we have work to do...
I PAID you for something that is NOT working RIGHT.. Fix the Damn thing!

Sorry to see you guys having so many problems :(

When i bought my copy (2 or 3 weeks ago) i read this post first and i was worried, i bought a new ssd and installed everything from scratch, no internet access etc... and i am finishing a rock project with lots of tracks, Vstis and effects and i didnt have a single crash.

BUT!!! I have a friend that claimed to have a lot of problems too, in his projects the real time asio load was peaking like mad in a pulsating way every second or two...it was really strange, asio guard seemed to have no effect at all.

So i offered to load his project into my setup and everything was fine....i figured out that the problem was a third party plugin that i didnt have so it was not loading in my system...when he took the only instance of this plugin everything went back to normal and now its working as intended.

Now...in my old system (i am in windows) i installed 7.0.6 and i cant get a few songs to load at all, and those are the same songs that i open with no problems in my new installed OS.

Im happy that its working fine for me, but i have to agree with you guys...this things shouldnt happen at all :(

Post

I used the Cubase internal EQ for the first time in a long while, only to realize that 7.06 also uses that crap overlay system to turn on/off the EQ in knob mode.

Whoever that genious was that though of this excellent concept... :x

Else, I don't have many problems at all. Just one...

MIght indeed be an option, though I can only repeat myself...

Didn't find a suitable (and bugfree) host so far. So I rather know the enemy than chose another one. And I set some things in motion as well with my complaints and more than detailed filed reports.

The still existing, or possible future users can only benefit from that.

We will see in which direction Steinberg will steer - tomorrow soonest.

Else, I'm so stuffed with work currently, which is stressing me out just as much, that I honestly don't know where to get some effective rest.
