Musicians: How well do you practice?

Been there done that. (Going back to an old teacher after my professional career waned) Had a good time as well. After my first lesson back he asked "What do you need me for" I was well practiced before restarting because I wanted to play well for him on return. Usually guitar lessons are a half our long. I paid for the full hour. The first part would be a recap of the week prior, the second was my ideas that I'd want to explore further and the third part was a jam.

The jam consisted of.. I'd pull out (usuallY) a jazz standard. I'd play the melody first time through. Second time I'd back him up and he'd solo, third time I'd solo trying to incorporate ideas of his, along with variations of the melody and my own ideas.

My "lessons" were always the highlight of my week. Eric was always mild mannered yet direct in his assesments of my performance.

Re Teachers and direction.
Before I met Eric I went through teachers like water. i was originally self (books, watching others) self taught. And while initially It all seemed quite natural I hit a wall that I couldn't overcome without the self discipline of practice and a good teacher.

well fwiw,i don't know if this is motivating or will help anyone since this are words written in the internet but for some reason my life took a surprising twist in the last months.

i'm working since a long time to get my live setup running using the computer to play through,including everything else that is going on.think about a complete studio on the go.

now that i have my plugins needs sorted and came to the point that i'm really satisfied with my sound i begun to play e-guitar much better than i ever had played before.

i had a lot of teachers and there have been a lot of very good professionals but to be honest,i always had technical problems and i never got it sorted or solved.

merely,a technical problem generally is easily stuck in the "talent column",i notice this a lot.
the last years i tried to completely forget about competition and "better as" aspects because this was always very distracting and confusing on me.


i completely re-learned my playing but without thinking about it,in the last couple of months i decided to play at least 30 minutes a day and while watching a video i just played.
in the last two month's i tried to refine my technique a little bit because i noticed that i needed to play sometimes about 20 minutes to "get in".

that was all done without pressure but with commitment.

the last few weeks i found a couple of mnemonics to remember myself in case i was too uptight.

so now i'm over 40,i play guitar much better than ever before and i feel really good when playing,it makes fun.
i say i play very good guitar,something i never (really) could say about myself due to the mentioned reasons.

i'm grumpy when i think about my useless lessons and my wasted time.

i always thought a good teacher is when the student can do it even better.

well,not often seeing it in reality tbh.

for me playing a instrument is a part of healthy/balancing,improvising is that what i love.

I've spent a few more hours at that than I have at drumming... And I'm pretty sure I did when I was starting out - I don't remember much about it, though. Lots of falling flat, most likely...
