Well there is a project files view that Thomas posted, as well as the normal browser which you might say dips into that territory because it lets you save clips with the track info, iirc.

I might go rooting for that pic that Thomas posted, but before I do, is there a way to vioew the whole thread at once, like a printable versions? Because going page by page is what makes it so tedious.

Ty, that's interesting. I also was confused about why someone would want to delete a stop button. It never dawned on me in Live. But now it seems obvious, and important with they way they are going to be integrating the clip launcher and the arrange. As far as the text, I see your point, it's nice not having to remember I guess. Can you size the mixer channels horizontally?

Post

the arranger looks pretty cool in general, its what i probably hate the most in live. I just cannot get used to the ableton arrangement view as a cubase user. But in Bitwig it looks pretty good. looking forward.. :)

No. You also can't scale the clips horizontally ATM.

Same here (minus the "as a cubase user" ;-) ).
That is the one thing that's just so well done in BWS. Having the clips horizontally in front of the arrangement is so frigging natural.
I can see that becoming a big hit, especially together with the clip action "Return to Arrangement". Play something linearly on the timeline, then fire a clip and be back to the timeline when it's finished...

In Live it feels much more either/or...

What was it that you didn't like about it? The lack tools?

Its not just the tools, it generally feels pretty uncomfortable to me, like the track controls on the right side, or the way of cycling a certain area, or when doing automation, it soon looks very crowded, the audio editing is somehow limited (therefor the need of an external audio editor), no proper panning..well, thats what comes to mind right now. I'm sure one could get used to all this, but i just refused to try after a while. So this is just how i look at the arranger.

In Cubase i got several Folder Tracks, like this:

Everything (folder)
..Audio (folder)
...Synth (Folder)
......Audio tracks inside
...Drums (Folder)
......Audio Tracks inside
...Bass (Folder)
......Audio Tracks inside

..Midi (folder)
...Synth (Folder)
......Instrument tracks inside
...Drums (Folder)
......Instrument Tracks inside
...Bass (Folder)
......Instrument Tracks inside

Subgroups
Kick/Bass
Drums
Synth

FX Returns
Reverbs etc

So i do structure all my sessions like this, and even if i would have 70 Tracks or smth, i could just open the folder i need to that time..i really enjoy this a lot. I can even minimise the whole session to the single Everything folder and its good fun to me to unfold it :D

I know there are no folders in BWS yet, but at least the inspector to the left would give me a lot of freedom already :D

I see. Live does have folder track though.

Post

I'm still at Live 8, no folders there. And i think you mean group tracks in Live 9 right?

Ah yes, I'm thinking of 9. Group track/folder track, same dillio I think.

Post

Is it possible to just show the single group tracks in live 9 and unfold the content? then yes, would be the same basically.

A folder in cubase is no subgroup with fader and inserts etc..thats just the minor difference..

Yes.

I guess its the same if you just don't use the track controls. Except for if you were using some complex buss routing in cubase maybe.

Those tools are available for many things
Thanks again Tom for the good information. I've seen enough that I can wait for the demo in peace :-)

I am not sure about that... from the video, it appears that the Bitwig envelope follower device can use any audio to modulate parameters of a following device, including 3rd party...
