Must disagree with most posts here. Z3ta is a good versatile synth and back in the day when it first came out it was a go to synth, maybe the first "Virus Like" VI. But after Sylenth it pales in comparison, as most other synths do in the most important area to me - the sound. I own both and have for a long time but no amount of extra modulation or features can make up for Lennard's mastery of DSP algorithms. Sorry, Z3ta is no match for Sylenth, but get both if you can. Otherwise, my advice - save up for Sylenth.

I've been listening to lots of Sylenth Demos and I am going to agree, it is a real workhorse VA and has some kind of "warmth" to it when it's all mixed together which is nice.
I personally think if i could have maybe 2 really easy to use bread & Butter synthesizers it would be Spire and Sylenth1. They both are capable of alot of sounds and can help a person build up a track fairly quick with not much CPU usage. I imagine that owning both would be awesome!

£39 for Z3ta is ridiculous.

Zeta is fantastic...and way more versatile then Sylenth. Stupidly cheap synth at that price too...
Sylenth is great, it has to be said.

Z3ta will probably have more free presets available third party as well plus plenty of low cost payware presets as well.
lots of free presets like Muzeum at patch arena make it the more bang for the buck choice and at that price it is well worth it and if they give you the original Z3ta you can get the virus mod for that as well.
I would grab Z3ta and with the money you save add Synthmaster.

I've got those and done exactly the same thing ! Oh well....recursive one wrote:Damn these sales! Just purchased Z3ta, not sure I even need it given that I own Sylenth, Spire, Synthmaster and Massive but I just could not resist.
No single synth purchase in 2014, I swear!

I'm now playing with my last impulse purchase. Wow, I didn't even realized that it sounds that good. Actually, Z3ta sounds completely different to Sylenth, it is more gritty and raw in a good way but can make some amazingly lush and sweet pads. I don't get why someone says that it sounds worse than Sylenth. Different -yes, but no way inferior.
Yes, maybe Sylenth wins at huge supersaw stuff.

Here's our advices, precious: Z3TA2 is a very versatile synth. It's a sound designer's dream. It outclasses Sylenth in nearly every area, except for one: SOUND. This is entirely subjective, naturally, so the second part of my advice is this: don't trust our opinions, make up your own.
All I know is that Z3TA2 is gathering virtual dust in my setup, for two reasons: I find the sound harsh and biting, unpleasant, the filters are unremarkable and bland, and the workflow is unnecessarily convoluted. The mod matrix, powerful though it may be, is a real pain, with its huge drop-down lists within drop-down lists. The buttons are tiny, and ironically don't offer drop-down menus in some areas where they are badly needed, so you just need to click your way through to where you want to go. I HATE using Z3TA2, but I would look past that if the sound was really good. Alas, I find the sound harsh... etc.
Sylenth, on the other hand, has become a classic for a good reason. I once sold it, and bought it again, because there were some sounds I just couldn't get with any other synth. It's definitely got character, and I find the limitations quite refreshing after doing some serious patching in Zebra, for example. The sound is - gack!- warm, yes it's true, sometimes clichés are true (that's why they become clichés). Hmmm, yummy warmth.
(edit) Oh, I just read the OP (one should do that, right?). Money is tight, I get that. In that case, you should really look at Synthmaster right now as an alternative. I would argue to the grave that SM can't "do" Sylenth, but it can get pretty close. The sound quality and workflow are much, much better than Z3TA2, although SM can really tax your CPU if pushed to extremes.

+1 for Sylenth1.

Sylenth1 was last updated five years ago according to KVR info:

Stability is of course good, but I guess GUI wise computer screens have become a lot sharper over the last 5 years

How much does an hour of your time cost? How much time do you envisage working with a Sylenth1 in total? How much do you value what you do? Can you put a price on the quality of sound that A can give you and B can't?chk071 wrote:For you.toothnclaw wrote:+1 for Sylenth1.
The price difference is irrelevant.I got zeta 1 as magware, and the v2 upgrade for 25€, which totals to like 32€, Sylenth1 would cost 165€ including VAT. That's 5 times the price. Not my price league tbh. And in that price league, i would already wonder whether i should not buy a Zebra which can do a lot more stuff than Sylenth does... anyway, pointless to discuss, if you have the money, and like the sound, nothing wrong in getting it of course. But to me, it seems a bit overprices, which of course is fair enough too, as it has a certain reputation.
You know, nobody is FORCING you to do or not do anything. It's about playing with toys, FFS
Yes, I just did. That's how I am, can't do nothing about it.Numanoid wrote:Looks like the Borg just chimed in with an opinion of the collective mindtoothnclaw wrote:The price difference is irrelevant.
