Does it actually mean "Evil place" ?

Kind of a weird title for a piano maker

Post

Yes, "Böse" means angry/evil/malicious, and Dorf is a village.
It's not on GoogleMaps currently but I wouldn't be surprised if 3 or 400 years ago in Austria there was a village called Bösendorf and one of the forefathers of Ignatz Bösendorfer came from that place.

Actually, I found it! Zła Wieś is the current name in Polish, it used to be in Pommern or Danzig-Westpreußen. Google Translator says it translates to poor or bad village.

Zła Wieś would be a cool name for a metal band :D

It could almost be pronounced as "Slaves"?

Post

Isn't the Polish 'ł' pronounced like an English 'w', rather than an 'l'?

Post

So it would be pronounced something like?: Zwa wie-s

Still a pretty cool metal name, rolls right of the tongue

Post

You don't get many concert pianists in metal bands though...

Sort of like zwa vies, with the s being real hissy if that makes any sense. A great name for either metal covers of country songs, or metal covers of Village People songs.

Not that you get a lot of concert pianists in metal, country or Village People cover bands, but...

You've never been to an all male exotic dance revue and niether have I. Liberace would be proud.

Wouldn't it mean "A person from the bad or evil village", with the -er addition on the end of the word?

Didn't JFK once say "Ich bin ein Bösendorfer"?

Probably better to be a piano than a jelly donut.

"Evil villager", or "villain" for short.
