16gb, 32gb or 64gb tablet for composing music...?

I am about to buy a tablet (nexus 7 2013 or ipad mini retina) but there is pretty big price differences with different capacity models.
So how is it with current state of art composing programs (FL Studio Mobile, Nanostudio, Caustic, etc..), what is the maximum amount of space you think you would need for composing? Can you manage with 16gb or would you need more space..?
I would pretty much just collect ideas (melodies, basslines, etc..) then hopefully export them somehow to Ableton Live and continue the tune there. So I probably wouldn't need that much of samples or anything...

I have all my tablets with 16GB. I think it's enough, even for 96 kHz multitrack recordings. I have to keep an eye on the free space left, but usually I always have 4-5 GB free. I work on 2-4 projects, then I offload them to the computer.
The saved money you can spend on interfaces, mics, etc.

Get as much space as you can afford. What might start off as a desire for simple melody composition can easily become much more
And I wouldn't. Go anywhere near android for music composition

Unfortunately that's pretty much true (and otherwise I'm a big android fan). There were insane deals on the asus t100's (full win 8.1 tablets) on black friday here in the US... 64gb models w/ keyboard dock + usb3 port for under $300. Atom quadcore cpu's (I think). Might be underpowered for full daw apps but any apps running on apple tabs I would think could be ported eventually maybe. Anybody have one they are using for music?el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:Get as much space as you can afford. What might start off as a desire for simple melody composition can easily become much more

I think Apple's devices are better suited for making music.
That's why they have more music SW than Android.
The difference is not CPU or amount of RAM, but at operating system level.
Someone might know this in more detail.

You are unlikely to find these apps ported until such time as android gets it's latency issues sorted out. Even then, given the huge amount of tablets of differing power and compatibility, I'd imagine many developers not wanting to get involvedchrisby wrote:Unfortunately that's pretty much true (and otherwise I'm a big android fan). I do have a couple of major annoyances using my iPad,( such that I still keep a basic android tablet on hand), but iPad is the only music option currently worth considering

Can you really make big music with less than a couple Terabytes of storage? Sure, you can make a simple song with less, but if you need to orchestrate a week of Vogon poetry readings, you must have the thousands of gigabytes. And that's just for the liner notes.
Agree that the iOS products are, sadly, the only decent choice for music apps on a tablet ATM. And when I say decent, I mean they're useless for Vogan poetry symphonic masterpieces. Of course, so is Vogan poetry, so there's that.

The tab I referenced runs full win 8.1... So my comments were oriented towards that. I agree on Android (as I pretty much stated in the first sentence). I don't think low latency is a priority for the Android team unfortunately and not likely to change at least in the near future. I wish it would though....el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:You are unlikely to find these apps ported until such time as android gets it's latency issues sorted out. iPad is much stronger for music making. Get as much hard drive as you can afford. It's likely that finishing whole projects is going to be an increasing trend in the months ahead as software developers take advantage of the A7 chip and music related APIs.

right...still, personally i am not into the idea of windows on a tablet..software is not suited to the screensize or for touch interfaceschrisby wrote:The tab I referenced runs full win 8.1... tablets have taken off, fr the most part, due to their simplicity...a somewhat closed system allows for the user experience to be much tighter...certainly, with regard to music making, it is the simplicity (while also offering depth), with apps being written from the ground up that make them such great instruments
not that a windows tablet couldn't have these apps written also in the same way, but that kinda defeats the purpose of a full os, non ??

Don't own an android tablet, but I read, there are some apps which let you to install or move your apps/data from internal memory to sd card, e.g:
* FolderMount
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... que.fmount
* App2SD / App2SD Pro
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ife.app2sd
* FolderMount

* App2SD / App2SD Pro

It`s not a bug... it`s a feature!

Win 8.1 comes with both their Metro (tab interface) and full desktop OS built in. What I was referring to was porting the simple ipad type apps (as you reference) to Metro. Then on one device you could have both environments... Tab apps when you use it as a tab, full desktop when you use it docked. Granted the hw isn't fully there yet for the latter but it will get there eventually. As much grief MS got for win 8 I think the Asus I mentioned kind of indicates that in terms of the future they may be on the right track after all.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:

For an all in one, Caustic 3 on Android :

With that and Fruity Loops :

I think Android is getting there. Sure Apple have more single synths but if you have Android you can have fun too.

in that case, it could be a viable optionchrisby wrote:Win 8.1 comes with both their Metro (tab interface) and full desktop OS built in.
