Didn't really like it at first, then when I learnt how to use it properly it grew on me and now I find myself using it quite a bit. As many have said, a little goes a long way. Great plug in that can work a treat when eq alone isn't quite doing it for you. Good little video demo here

This is the kind of thing i expected too. No installation for me either!
create an account at waves. go here - http://www.waves.com/downloads/v9 and select mac or windows from the HUGE download version 9 area at the top.
during installation you can choose what to install - no huge download.

i don't see the hassle at all if your computer is connected to the net.

I follow a 'path of least resistance' attitude (resistance being anything that sits 'on top' of a plugin that could lead to problems down the road) when it comes to any kind of software. Things like licensing centre software and/or software that needs an internet connection to activate are a big no-no for me personally. I have had too many problems in the past with this kind of thing and pretty much only use plugins that come as a simple installer or .dll these days.

well fair enough if you've been scared off by bad experiences.

never had any myself in all the years i've been doing this.

if you (not you specifically) can chew gum and walk at the same time then you can most likely install a waves plugin.

First of all this is a nice freebie and the hassle is really worth it !

I had problems with FL studio also but then i contacted the tech support and they replied as follows :

Dear Rauli,
Thank you for contacting Waves Tech Support.
Please note that Waves plug-ins are not officially supported with Fruity Loops (It doesn't mean that it won't work it just means that we nevertested them on this platform and we can't assure that everything will work properly there.

Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves\Plug-ins and make sure you see there Rbass.bundle
If you don't see it, run the Waves V9 installer again, don't change default locations and select the Renaissance Bass from the list of single plug-ins inside the installation type menu.

If you do see it, click on the Windows START button and search for: %appdata% (this will take you to the Roaming folder).
Delete the folder called Waves Audio from that location.

Open Fruity Loops and let me know how it goes.

First of all i was suprised about this because ive actually bought a waves C1 compressor and it worked fine and straight away without any problems and i wasn't even aware that they don't support FL Studio "officially".

However i did remove the roaming folder and got it working !

On the other hand this made me doubt about waves because my weapon of choice has been FL Studio since the days of Fruityloops !

I hope that this will help the people using FL Studio as their host...

Indeed Waves do not support FL Studio officially. This means that they do not guarantee that their plugins work 100% of time time as expected. In the past they have also referred to this policy to avoid further support on an occasion or two.

That said, over the years I have used Waves I have never had any problems with their plugins in FL Studio. Maybe an occasional glitch here or there but nothing noteworthy. All the Waves stuff has worked nicely.

Also, take note that Scott from Image Line stated recently in the Image Line forums that they are in talks with Waves to add FL Studio to officially supported DAW's list. So there is a good chance that in the future Waves will also make sure that their stuff works as expected in FL Studio.

I get that FL Studio is not the #1 Daw or whatever, and that it has its quirks. But come on people, how many hoops for a freebee that's ancient and isn't *that* special in the end. Call me a moron, but I'm not some n00b, I can handle installing plug-ins, when they play nice ha-ha.

Anyways, whatever for Waves (good for them for giving out a freebee/taster) I was never much interested, and this changes zero of that attitude. Call me an elitist or rebel (or incapable idiot, but be more than slightly wrong there ha-ha) but I'm really just some guy who makes sounds/muzak like you, and doesn't care for all the pageantry surrounding either. *shrug*

Added : <----Note I'm pointing this out ha-ha. No wish to start a war, or even call people who maybe 'mocked' me names, just explaining my p.o.v. is all. If this plug-in worked smoothly for you, and you like it, then that is great. I mean no negativity toward persons, other than the situation I experienced as a halfway well, experienced digital music maker. I was not impressed with the Waves routine/fail is all. Blame me if you want, but it's not all on me as I am somewhat capable of clicking a few buttons and installing a 'normal' plug-in etc.

All these stuff with compatibility problems, license center, WUP, registration process and other things let me staying away from Waves in the past. Only because of Renaissance Bass I donated my email address... (I'm still waiting for the "instruction email", anyway, I guess the Waves guys & gals are having free on the weekend.)

I joined the site, gave my email, browsed their products etc, but really..all the downloading and licensing was a bit over the top for a 500k plug, keep it!

I dunno dude. I tend to agree maybe 40% that there are some just doing user error, but it's not the most straight-forward process unless you are familiar with it. At least it's not ilok anymore, my god......that was hell wrapped inside of hell (and I only know from trying to demo stuff)

Since they went to 9 with it's better, still not "really" easy though.

That's the most weird install procedure I've ever seen...
It always leads to one of three possible outcomes:

- connection timeout
- invalid handle
- VC++ "abnormal program termination"

(I'm using Waves' "woli.exe" component on Windows)

That even surpasses NI's install procedures.

I usually have all the worst case software experiences but I don't really grind my teeth through Waves installs and authorization. I find it pretty smooth. The one thing is I have to clear cache/rescan to get Reaper to see through the Waveshell and find the new plug-in, but that may be Reaper's fault.

Get Waves Renaissance Bass for free
