How do you download stuff from the Exchange?
I tried to get that Open Air collection, but it kept giving me connection errors...

Dunno, try downloading through the web site instead of the browser.
Anyway... the holidays are for sharing so here is a zip with a set of macros and a keymap file for the remapping shown in the graphic below. I find this remapping arrangement useful for everyday stuff (mmv as usual) since I don't use those number keys to switch tools.
Download Zip (*.keyscheme, macros, layout graphic)

@openair: Some of the IR's are just to DIE for.......and some are REALLY meh. More so than let's say reflektor which are more consistent (but there is no wow factor). But if you are using S1, openair is far easier to use.

And just a reminder you can get a mono version of Hamburg Audio Nuklear for free, for S1 users
(the mono version was also available in Beats and Keys mags)
Grab the normal download and pop it in your VST folder and thats it, no registering required.
http://www.hamburg-audio.de/index.php?nav=3003&lang=GB
You can upgrade to the full version for about 40% off

I love Studio One.
I actually sold Live and Cubase after getting to know it well enough. It's easy, it's got great workflow for me, some functions are years ahead of other hosts (and some are, well, a bit behind the others LOL).

I have spent all night with it yesterday! It is a perfect companion for Geist. Generally the sounds sitting very nice in the background (does not have dominant nature). I needed such sound. I might upgrade in the future, but for now mono is enough for me.
It comes with 32/64 bit installer for Windows. There is a mac version but I haven't test it yet.

Any tips for getting the most out of openair? It never seems to sit really nicely in the mix for me. I am using it as a send effect to create a little bit of air and space in my mixes.hibidy wrote:coolLawrenceF wrote:There's another set in the Exchange under Soundsets | audiolab, dept of Elec. Like any verb, tweak it, eq it, shape it.kev2525 wrote:Any tips for getting the most out of openair? It never seems to sit really nicely in the mix for me. I am using it as a send effect to create a little bit of air and space in my mixes.
Even though it has it's own EQ controls I have a personal habit of using a track EQ plugin before or after verbs, I rarely use any built in EQ on verb plugs. But the other controls there, envelope, processing, ER level, etc, etc,... tweak them to shape the verb to your liking.
You might also try (something I do) with shared verbs, putting a bus in-between some individual tracks and the shared verb to modify the apparent pre-delay times, which helps (imo) with the illusion of space. That bus will be a pre-fader unity send with a delay on it, and have it's channel fader at infinity, just passing the channel send along while delaying it a little differently from other signals hitting the verb. So, I might have a hall verb that multiple signals are sharing but maybe the brass and strings sends are being individually delayed that way by 20 & 35 ms respectively.
Another common method with vocals (because some plate verbs can be bright and accentuate sibilant vocal sounds, but you don't want to EQ away the good part of the verb brightness) is to put a de-esser plugin before the verb plugin, on the FX bus or pre-FX bus.
Also, some of Open Air's large and medium Halls and Plates have pretty long decays so a little touch or some tweaking of the decay and ER times goes a long way.
Hope some of that helps.

All versions come with NI Guitar Rig LE, certainly Artist did when I got it a couple of years ago in a No Brainer sale.
You can currently upgrade this to Guitar Rig Pro for 50eur.
Everyone is looking for a decent effects rig right?
This is freaking awesome, not just for guitars.
Its modular and at this price is the cheapest thing youll get that comes close to an Eventide harmoniser (who doesnt want those Crystaline style patches!)
Got it the other night and this is the most fun Ive had with a guitar and an effects box in a long time!
I was totally suprised by what it can do.
Comes with hundreds of really great presets including granular swirly pitch shifted shit ......
makes everything sound good

I used Samplitude 9 and 10 for a few years, but when I upgraded to Windows 8 64 bit I found that the upgrade pricing from 10 to Pro X was very steep.
Samp 10 had worked for me in terms of workflow etc, but just simply refused to install on Windows 8 (Funnily enough Samp 10 SE installed and worked perfectly on that platform).
I tried Sonar X2 which I bought at a good price just before they dumped it for X3. I didn't like Sonar much at all. Cakewalk's support is absolutely abysmal. They simply just ignored the support ticket that I raised with them regarding a MIDI routing issue in X2.
I tried Studio One Free and was hooked by the simplicity of its workflow and while it is intuitive to use, below the surface lies a very powerful DAW. It is also as solid as a rock in terms of stability.
I also bought Studio One V2 Professional for less than the cost of upgrading Samp 10 to Samp Pro X
I love it
The only thing I do miss about Samp is the object level editing capability (and Kraznet's amazing tutorials).
I have also had very positive experiences when dealing with Presonus support and pre-sales. The user forum is a very helpful and kind place too.
My only niggle with Studio One is the lack of any ability to adjust the GUI colour. However, that is a minor thing compared to its great workflow and stability.

IMO, the real key to being happy with Studio One (or any relatively young workstation tbh) is to not get too caught up on what it can't do yet, to keep it all in proper context, and to focus on just getting the work done with it.
We more vocal daw users tend to sometimes get sidetracked by the "can do's" as did I at first. But once I settled into the S1 workflow, all of the stuff I thought I'd miss from Cubase became pretty irrelevant.
After that, every update is just another gift.
I suspect Bitwig Studio will be the same for those who will accept it for what it is and go along for the ride, instead of focusing too much on what it won't do well early on.
