At some point, this just got too weird for me. IKM makes great products, otherwise, but Sample Tank should have been retired a long time ago imo. Kontakt 5 is light-years away from where Sample Tank ever was, and the sample libraries available for Kontakt are immense!

So, why wait for this vaporware to materialize when there's so many other things to do? Even if it comes out, I doubt that it can compete with the industry-standard K5. The sample libraries that are out there now are so detailed and wonderful sounding, and the selection is so vast. I don't understand what else could be wanted and needed that ST3 might provide?

In fact, we would all be better served if IKM would make all of the sound libraries they have compatible with K5! Now, there's an idea :tu: :D

I don't have full compatibility testing specs, we'll share when we have more information on this sort of thing. We may run it on an Atari 800 at NAMM though. ;)

SampleTank has always been unique and we're not releasing it to be a Kontakt slayer (though I'm counting more guitars, basses, and other instruments in the core library as just one comparison if you need one). It is made to be a workstation without compare - ease of use plus more powerful features than you'd expect to be able to use so quickly and easily. SampleTank will allow people to fire up amazing sounds quickly, then record or perform with them easily with very powerful features that make their workstation work with them and allow them to make amazing-sounding music without fuss but with all the power needed.

Think of a Ferrari whizzing past an SUV on a race track. It will perform well for what it was made to do, and will be beautiful and powerful while doing so.

That would be a roadblock in front of the Ferrari. No thanks.

It should work with the Atari - after all, both products came out around the same time.

Not SampleTank 3. And Atari 800 was out in the 1979 (I know, I had one though it was admittedly a pretty cool machine). Yes, I know there was sarcasm there, but well, no. Seriously, though, I'm told SampleTank 3 will be 64-bit only but not sure about specific OS compatibility.

All I see are extreme close ups of the instruments included in ST3. That's not the same as pictures of the User Interface.......

Okay, there are some complains here. But that's good. I mean, no point complaining if one didn't care.

So in case any developer reads this. PLEASE make it EASIER and more COMFORTABLE to browse through the libraries.

And learn from other. a lot of people complained about the collors of Cubase's workspace. Ultimately they made it possible to customize it. Both HALion and Kontakt have dark GUI's for a reason. Bright bg colours really sticks in your eyes.

Think about it. Would you enjoy reading a book with red pages? I don't think so.

They are part of the user interface.

Of course, constructive ideas aren't really even complaints anyway in my book. The GUI will change, for the better, and I hope the changes are better for you too. Thanks for the suggestions.

You've got to be kidding.....people care about the overall function and appearance of the new GUI not what the instruments that are loaded will look like. If you're only 40 plus days away from release the GUI must be pretty much carved in stone by now so just show it to keep interest going. So basically what iK has done is instead of getting user feedback on the new GUI during the development process they'll just wait until the release date and then listen to the complaints that could have been avoided....just like what happened with ST2.....Ok whatever.....I've got to go into my studio and switch out Disc C of my Kontakt 5 install......Checking the rear view mirror for Sampletank.......

Here are some more suggestions :D

- Please add a possibility to mark patches as "favourite", and to quichly find the marked ones.
Maybe that will be less essential for ST3 itself, but it would be a great help for the sounds of the other virtual instruments.

Been just messing around with SampleMoog.
If I browse through the sounds (which is a pain, but many have commented on that already), and find some I like, there is no way I will remember in two weeks where they were.

- A browser with categories would be cool, where you can search for a sound for example like this: Pad -> Dark/Bright -> Soft/Hard etc.

I really don't know how I can search for a sound with a specific tonal quality in SampleMoog or the other virtual instruments.
If somebody has an advice, please share.
All I see is a long list of various instruments, with a lot of patches for each of them- that makes me feel kinda lost :help:

I never did like the ST2 interface at all. However, having a negative opinion about the prior iteration doesn't support the logic above. No matter what they would have shown would have given nothing but polarized responses. I'd also guess that a good number of people/users have been involved in the alphas and betas. I doubt IK is stupid enough to just randomly create a new interface ignoring prior input from ST2... which by the way was designed a LONG time ago when screen space was at a premium. If you go back, many plugin vendors were criticized for having interfaces that were too big and controls that were too big.

...I can't believe I'm defending IK ... what have I been drinking? who put what in my coffee?
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

No, you see it's like a Ferrari at a carwash. You can't actually see the Ferrari because it's obscured by the machinery that washes it, but it's there alright.
