i think its an ok time for such a thread :)
also, i will have to check through which albums ive bought, but off the top of my head...

arcade fire - reflektor.
these guys and gals have yet to release a bad record. i admit i was a little apprehensive about a double album, but seriously there is not one duff track on this album.

for the second year running i will have to include
carlton melton - always even.
same sort of thing as the debut last year but with a little more of a rock edge where the earlier was pretty much spaced out guitar jam.

both are highly recommended, but now id like to hear from you lot :D
i may add more as i check my purchases...

Wow checked out Arcade Fire pretty cool stuff!

My faves this year have been (band/artist - album title)
Sound of Contact - Dimensionaut album (pretty much my favorite from 2013)

Katy Perry - Prism (I know I know I'm a sellout)

Dream Theater (though I hate the production of this album, the music is good)

Alter Bridge - Fortress (another smashed album with great songs)

Walking Across Jupiter - Scent (absolutely LOVED this one)

Pearl Jam - Lightning Bolt. I think they keep getting better, year after year... great album, every track a winner. They still have the intensity of their early years, tempered by a looseness that lets the music breathe.

Arcade Fire - Reflektor. Hasn't really clicked with me yet, I'm missing the goosebump moments of their first three albums. Need to give it some time, for now, it's a very "interesting" record.

Speaking of goosebumps... Sigur Ros - Kveikur. Speechless. Condenses all their strengths and spans their entire sound spectrum, from the sound of butterfly wings to the collapse of the universe.

Darkside - Psychic. W00t! Nice surprise here. The vocals are an acquired taste, but it's fascinating how they create a murky atmosphere with very clean arrangements. A grow(l)er.

Four Tet - Beautiful Rewind. Not really surprising, but a more than solid piece of work with some surprisingly light touches. Great for train rides.

Atoms for Peace - Amok. Anything with Thom Yorke is worth a listen, and this is a nice continuation of his Eraser album.

I'm going to add Autechre - Exai, although I really think they need to revamp their formula. Even unpredictability becomes predictable after a while. I certainly enjoyed Oversteps and Move of Ten more... maybe it's just too goddamn long.

of course, sigur ros - kvaikur.
i would have added that, but i wasnt sure if it was last year

ill check other bits mentioned, cheers :)

Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest

Fieldtriqp's "Hidden Tracks" would be my number one if not for the album above.

I actually don't know if I can think of an act in 2013 that I have really listened to. I was going to suggest Hot Chip, but then realized their last album was 2012, not this year.

Looking back through iTunes…

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Push the Sky Away
Nils Frahm - Spaces
Brandt Brauer Frick - Miami
Dawn of Midi - Dysnomia
Gary Numan - Splinter
Neko Case - The Worse Things Get
F**k Buttons - Slow Focus
Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats - Mind Control

Sigur Ros would probably feature as well but I still haven't got around to getting it.

How could I forget Nick Cave? Fantastic album, going to give the new live one a try soon.

Autechre - Exai
Autechre - L-Event
Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest
Tim Hecker - Virgins

These are the obvious ones I can think of right now.
Maybe I should start listening to some other stuff, I'm basically listening to the same artists since years :hihi:

I'm glad their new stuff is still so awesome though 8)

Cheers
