Darker Digital presents Rompulator, a Kontakt-scripted ROM-synthesizer designed for multi-layer patches built from synthetic basses, brasses, strings, bells, choirs and more.
Rather than being pre-recorded, each single Rompulator instrument is created from up to three layers of looped multisamples inside Kontakt.
Thanks to this classic approach known from hardware romplers, Rompulator manages to have a low size of roughly 500 MB and virtually no patch loading time. The factory library consists of over 200 totally customizable patches. Rompulator's GUI and synthesis features have been optimized for multi-layer sound design. Rompulator is more than a bread-and-butter rompler, it's a three-layer ROM-synthesizer meant to be tweaked.

Rompulator comes in a Kontakt 4.2 version and a Kontakt 5 version, applying the new K5 ladder filter models.

Rompulator has an introductary price of $59, lasting until January 1st.

It sounds very nice and the GUI (albeit a bit too dark) has a distinct character, but if I understood correctly the presets will be multis (?), so I'm wondering how much CPU will eat this thing? Also, will it be K5 only, or also K4+?

No romplers were sampled, or harmed ;)
While aiming at that classic rompler sound, all rompler-ish sounds were created through physical modelling with a broad range of synthesizers.

The presets are all single presets (.nki) but Rompulator is scripted in a way that allows you to layer up to three instruments in one single patch.
There will be a K4.2 and a K5 version of Rompulator. The K5 version uses the new ladder filter models.
Cpu use is not bad at all. I never had any problems, even with a six year old pc with 4gb ram.

Your PC seems to be newer than mine and has an additional one extra gb ram That's why I asked how it performs...btw, I'm also on 32 bit - peachy

Just like in classic romplers, Rompulator's samples are perfectly looped and way shorter than in most modern sample libraries. This allows for less ram usage and minimal loading time. Once one single patch is loaded, you can skip through sounds without virtually any loading time. The cpu usage comes mostly from all the effects and modulation that Rompulator uses. The K5 version uses more cpu than the K4 version because of the analog moddeled ladder filters. Still you should never have any real problems with either of them.

Thanks for the info Yeah, normally I have no problem running K4 instruments at almost no CPU cost. K5...it depends.
