Sylenth1

I've recently checked out Sylenth1 in depth and I think it's f*n brilliant. It's not easy to come up with anything better at what Sylenth1 excells at without at the same time taking away from it. It's limitation are its strength and its curse, and anything that wants to compete in that area will face the same problem. Tough call ;)

Not saying I'm "talented", but I had fun writing in the OSC a while back with Zebralette, a free synth that sounds great. http://www.u-he.com/cms/zebralette

Just goes to show what can be done without spending an arm and leg, or anything at all actually :hihi:

I do miss Sylenth1 though (I used to own it), it has a great sound, low cpu usage...I'd like to try it out again soon. It's just got that certain type of signature sound.

Urs, that's the best backhanded compliment I've ever seen

I actually don't think it was backhanded at all. :)

Sylenth is still great synth, no doubt about it. As for other synths 'killing it', I can't really see it myself to be honest - It is what it is, a very good vst subtractive synthesizer...

Is it the best vst synth? I personally don't think so. I'd much prefer, Diva, Zebra, Diversion, Gladiator or Spire.

I also wouldn't agree with Music Radar's top 'X' - But that's my personal opinion. I don't really take polls too seriously.

Vangelis in fact, used 10 instances of OnePingOnly to produce his infamous
"chariots of fire" but used hardware synths for props in the official video. :x
HW SYNTHS [KORG T2EX - AKAI AX80 - YAMAHA SY77 - ENSONIQ VFX]
HW MODULES [OBi M1000 - ROLAND MKS-50 - ROLAND JV880 - KURZ 1000PX]
SW [CHARLATAN - OBXD - OXE - ELEKTRO - MICROTERA - M1 - SURGE - RMiV]
DAW [ENERGY XT2/1U RACK WINXP / MAUDIO 1010LT PCI]

i went to a songwriter showcase a few years ago at a club in manhattan; all these singers with (mostly) well-produced (or over-produced) backing tracks.

then one get gets on the stage, and sings while another guy claps his hands and does finger snaps. and i swear, it was the best song that night.

talent has little to do with tech (altho good tech helps). gimme a true artist and, say, garageband any day over a half-assed artist with $5000 worth of plugins and protools.

last rant for today (promise!).

Polls like this aren't about what is the most powerful, flexible, feature rich or even "best". Top X lists are popularity contests, so while that might be useless in many respects, it *can* give you a general idea of what's popular in the mainstream audio world at the time of the poll. This is assuming the voting pool is big and broad enough.

Very true. Usually the best stuff floats up but in a rather peculiar order (a few mediocre ones too).

I'd be more interested if it was aimed around the professional (or top professionals), as opposed to the amateur hobbyist (like myself I should add).

That said, give a talented and imaginative producer, the most basic set up, and he or she will be able to produce something special.

If you look at the full list of synths featured in the poll, most of the usual suspects we'd vote for are in there as well including most of Urs' flagship instruments. I think it's been the EDM producers in particular that have really lionized Sylenth1 over the past 5 years and pushed it into the limelight. If you look at labels like Anjunabeats, it's practically standard kit for almost every single one of their producers and this has had a rippling effect resulting in hundreds of 3rd party soundbanks and getting featured in tons of educational video content. I think Lennard knew exactly what he was doing when he developed it and being a producer/sound designer himself could really optimize it with those goals in mind.

It sorta worked out that way. It also helps that I got a used version of Komplete really cheap, sold my standalone FM8 license, and then upgraded at 50% off, for less than Kontakt alone would have cost. If not for that, I wouldn't have all that NI stuff.

For the most part I prefer non-NI effects. Guitar Rig is pretty handy but for most of the individual effects in it I have other favorites.

Diva, Lush 101, Razor and Spire can do this.

Post a sylenth demo of the music you made with it here and show me how great it is.

This whole circle jerk of a thread has nothing in it showing me anything other than empty words. Someone put a demo up that demonstrates the awesomeness of this synth. I listened to the demos of it on their website and was not impressed at all.
