Yes, so why are there still companies that require iloks?

I can't speak for the other companies, but my guess is that they don't need to switch. There is this big myth going around and the blogs perpetuate that "Developers Loose Money," because users won't buy because of iLok, when the number actually are different. There is a very good amount of profit to be made with the iLok system. It is only the blogs and the forums that seem to perpetuate this.

I remember launching my first plugin that required iLok and I was sooo afraid that I would launch a mailing and see 2-3 orders and to my surprise, I saw virtually no lag in sales. I was completely shocked and it made me realize that a ton of people have iLok.

Consider this:
1. Every user of ProTools has one
2. All of Steinberg's products use a dongle
3. Reason uses a dongle system as well.
4. East-West uses iLok

This is a huge market place of dongle users. Just to be totally honest and my limited experience: The other guys don't really need to. They are enjoying a crack free living.

PS: I'm currently paying $50/month just to keep my other Kontakt libraries off the crack sites.

It is not as much of an issue or money loosing issue as you may think and I'm speaking from experience.

Well we don't require an iLok now and our products are on sale :D

Another note....On a reverse note: You said: "I would buy many other products if they wouldn't have iLok." From a developers stand point: "There are many users who WOULDN'T buy my products, because it is NOT iLok (because of cracks).

I guess it all depends on what side of the fence you are on

so... why did you switch from iLok then, if it's that great? :-)

(just an honest question - iLok user myself, have absolutely no qualms with it)
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Steinberg's dongle is much cheaper. And now with the new system I don't know why there should be a reason to require an ilok. I think there are some products which I would have bought if they didn't require an ilok.

Personally, I just wanted more options for my users and me. I'm not just a developer, I'm a msician first and most of the libraries I develop, I actually use myself on music. So I wanted the option that if I forgot an iLok, that I could still be productive.

just to be informative, there are quite a number of people that use more than one machine at one time to sequence music with plugins, in a master and slave(s) setup. On a network, particularly using Vienna Ensemble Pro. So if one wanted this plug in more than one instance and the instances reside on separate machines, that scenario. So, for instance I have 'Vienna Suite' licensed on two syncrosoft dongles (per one purchase).

I, personally, have never had anyone using two machines at one time, but if you needed to use two machines at one time, I could arrange that.

I'm so confused about this as a neosoul customer from the first release I don't know where to begin.

I avoided any upgrades because of ilok. When I bought it, it was kontakt. I can't keep up. I also don't have a clue what I'm missing from any updates.

Post

is the uvi version of your product somewhat better than the contact version? Any differences due to the engines?

Just to some up the differences...and yes the UVI version is better:

1. Kontakt version has 3 EPs and UVI has 5. You have to pay extra for the other two with Kontakt
2. UVI version has more features
- Preset system to store patches internally
- Preset system to store FX
3. More effects with more options
4. More vibrato options and panning
5. More IR amp sims for Reverb and Amp
6. Mastering system with 8-band EQ, Compressor, and Mastering

There is more, but you get the picture...

Sorry for the confusion
