My fingers are itching to do so, but I already have two banks in the making currently plus more Iris stuff so I'm fully over-covered with work right now. But in January it's gonna be Diversion time for sure.core wrote:Maybe Simon of Patchpool could do some since they're always brilliant, so what do you say Simon?

While youre at it, heres something else i noticed. Its a little difficult to explain but im sure youll get it.sches wrote:Hey Env, I'll check it all, thanks!
If both of any 2 Oscs are set to either Free/Enabled or Free/Disabled, they are not actually 'free running'. On the contrary, they will be 'phase locked', meaning whenever you (re-)trigger a note, both Oscs will start from the exact same phase position.
In order to get a free running effect between 2 Oscs, (and i think this is where the error is), one Osc has to be set to Free/Enabled while the other Osc has to be set to Free/Disabled. This circumstance obviously leads to problems with minimoog-style 3-Osc sounds since at least 2 of the Oscs will have to be set to the same Free mode, thus inevitably killing the free running effect between those 2 Oscs.
To repro this quickly:
Use default init preset, enable Osc1 and Osc2, set Osc2 detune to 10, trigger some notes. You will notice that there is no free running effect because the Oscs are always restarting from the exact same position. Now set either Osc1 or Osc2 to Free/Disabled and trigger some more notes. Free running effect will now be there. If you now bring in Osc3 you will have a free running effect relative to the Osc that has the opposite Free mode setting, and no free running effect relative to the Osc that has the same Free mode setting.

Oh and one other thing i always forget to mention.
I couldnt help but notice that Diversion is one of the plugins that use both the X and the Y axis of the mouse to alter parameters. At least to me this is really a great hindrance especially with regards to setting parameters with precision since the slightest X axis movement sort of ruins what i tried to achieve with the Y axis movement. So if there actually is a good reason to have this bi-axis system in place, perhaps you could add an option that allows the user to limit parameter editing to the Y axis only so the X axis can no longer interfere?

Just having a play with the latest demo...Is there a way for certain Osc's to bypass the Arp or is it Global ? Would love the ability to have different Arps for each Osc or have some completely bypass the Arp. Makes for a lot of extra sound design possibilities.......

ARP is global for the synth and can't be bypassed in oscs, but I like this idea and try to make something later.
Thanks Env for detailed feedback, I'll check it precisely and do that should be fixed.

Diversion, to me has a really distinctive sound...big bottom, hollow mids and sharp highs...could be good in some situations. I mean, it's good, but not always...depends on what kind of sound you are looking for.

That's great news thanks ! Imagine one Osc with an Up Arp at 1/16 another at Down 1/8 and another Osc doing a filter sweep.......etcsches wrote:ARP is global for the synth and can't be bypassed in oscs, but I like this idea and try to make something later.
I'll be buying Diversion today.......

That's the point. Diversion has it's own character and that's the most important thing a synth can have in this crowded market. I own just about every synth from Alchemy to Zebra2 and I could certainly reproduce the style of patches Diversion can make but they would not have that same "attitude" or "juiciness" for lack of better words that Diversion has......it will live happily amongst and compliment the other great synths I own and the fact that the developer is really responsive to new ideas makes me excited for it's future....HcDoom wrote:Diversion, to me has a really distinctive sound...big bottom, hollow mids and sharp highs...could be good in some situations. I don't know if you are aware of it, but you can change the sound a bit with the "treble" button next to the oversampling selections above the main display if you find it too sharp.HcDoom wrote:Diversion, to me has a really distinctive sound...big bottom, hollow mids and sharp highs...could be good in some situations. I personally would agree with Teksonik: Diversion doesn't fit everywhere but has something to offer I didn't find in any other synth I've tried. It can be butter smooth, it can be brutally harsh, it's always rather direct, but I find it hard to create something boring with it - something many other synths excel in as far as I'm concerned
Totally subjective of course
Cheers,
Tom

Ok purchased Diversion today........loving it......
I'm immediately struck at how great not only the sound is but the work flow as well.....creating patches is just so intuitive. You can feel the thought and passion that went into creating this synth......
The only thing I've found so far is a very small matter and I mentioned this a long time ago but it seems like the Effects rows are switched. Bus one seems like it should be on top and Bus 2 on the bottom rather than the other way around but again it's a small matter once you remember the signal flow.
Ok I'm going back to creating some more patches now.....tons of fun!
(For an extra thrill try layering Diversion with Sylenth 1........these two compliment each other so well. Like two voices in a choir....layer up a couple of Seq patches and have fun playing the day away......)

Yes, I remember, it is still on the list but didn't get to it yet.Teksonik wrote:The only thing I've found so far is a very small matter and I mentioned this a long time ago but it seems like the Effects rows are switched. Thanks Tom and Teksonik, it was a great work to make Diversion as good as it looks now.
