I don't know. It seems like we lost the IVmaj7-I resolution in American pop music sometime around 1990. Or was it never an American thing? Some Scots are rocking it here. (Skip to 0:47 if you don't want to hear the whole song.)

Chvrches - We Sink

It has a nice poignancy that really works, but it seems to be used so rarely. Or maybe I'm wrong?
