ReLOLview of Renoise - The Guarantee For Overnight Succeeding

This is a relolview of Renoise - the program I am using to create music with.
---------- disclaimer: I hope you can laugh about this. Please do not expect this relolview to show what you can do with the real Renoise ----------
Renoise isn't just a Dee Ay Wobble Do.
It has UFOs. You can set the email for each enveloppe, and wish merry christmas many times with the Hydra device. With that built-in device you can control all kinds of Santa's reindeers to put each of their hoofs on a differently colored spot, and also phase in between these positions.
A good thing about Renoise is, that you can connect it with a to-do-yourself custom built in-the-wall mounted big standing dialing wheel with a number for trivia questions and an index finger to point to the lucky number (trivia questions are not included in Renoise).
Overnight, it works very fine as light source for reading books, as you can put all screen elements to a bright white color. This is a guarantee for overnight succeeding. Do not forget to also put your screen saver to a bright white color.
Renoise is very good at using no CPU at all. You can close it, and then it uses much less of your resources, so that you can open Renoise and try to do something good with it's extensive set of features.
What surprised and excited me most about Renoise, is that there is no sound audible when you have selected no sound card in the preferences, which is a major advantage for meditating sessions and also for in libraries where silence can be an issue.
So, it's definitely trying to be worth it if you want to be an artist.
You can load Renoise here down: http://renoise.com/download

Felt like i was drunk reading that
Is there some kind of bonus plan for Renoise users to mention it at other forums while it is in shutdown (What is it,18 months/2 years since the last update ?)
There is no evidence that it will even be updated anytime soon (One dev saying they are working on it 7 months ago and another getting antzy with users in the forum hahaha)
I like and own Renoise, but i am not sure a drivel post followed by the download link is warranted at all

Last update was exactly four weeks ago. (November 15, Renoise 2.8.2).

The last update was a fix for Mac because it wasn't working properly, not exactly a development update, so don't even go down that route.
the development of Renoise has always been slow but this time round it is just boring.
But i suspect we can expect a wave of 'Renoise users' stepping in now to defend the faith.
Yep just checked, the last feature release that wasn't because Apple stopped the app working with a new release of their OS, over 18 months ago, a couple of months and it will be the longest hiatus ever in Renoiseville
Wonder if i can find the 'pre 2' post by the devs mentioning a new set up with much smaller release cycle and feature updates hahaha

Haters gonna hate I guess.
I don't need a cookie every few months to enjoy something that is pretty much flawless as it is. I'm looking forward to whatever is coming with 3.0 as much as the next guy, but until then, I'm perfectly happy with what I have, especially since the devs seem very active working on 3.0 and brought in some very promising talent (dblue).
I really don't get the whole "where's my update" attitude (here or elsewhere). Don't people buy stuff just for what it is anymore and take any enhancements as a bonus? I mean, everybody is certainly entitled to any fixes, but more content? And within a certain time frame at that?
I don't think Renoise needs defending either. It's completely hors concours. You either enjoy what it does (and how it does it) or you don't.

I don't see any point "defending" Renoise here, but the thing is that Renoise is more or less a hobby project AFAIK. Even if it cost some money (is it $59 or something like that), that's probably just lunch money for the devs.
I would be more concerned if Renoise was actually developed by a commercial company, with people working full time on the project. But like I said, that's not the case here.
Consider how long it takes for most other DAWs out there, I don't see any problem. What is really sad, however, is that the developers seem to have so little faith in the Renoise users that they insist on giving away exactly zero information on anything related to where they're heading with the software.
It's like this:
"What's up Renoise developers?"
"We're developing, can't tell you anything else"
"You're going in some particular direction? More live features maybe?"
"Won't tell you anything"
And then one year later:
"What's up Renoise developers?"
"We're developing, can't tell you anything else"
"You're going in some particular direction? Can you at least tell us your vision?"
"Won't tell you anything, except that we're developing"
"All right, so roughly how long do you estimate you'll be developing this version?"
"Won't tell you anything, it's ready when we're happy with it"
"Yes, I understand that, but do you think it's a matter of years or months or...?"
"Won't tell you anything, so instead of asking questions just go enjoy what you have"
THIS is a bit frustrating. But I'm sure the developers must have burnt their fingers in the past, there has to be some explanation behind this extreme "silence" policy. I'd personally like it better if the developers were just a little bit more open about their progress, because it also gives us some headroom to plan our purchases and investments.

The no noise soundcard thing is very interesting. I'll have to check this out. Cheers.

Yes and people with no relevant point at all will pull the "Haters" cardwasi wrote:Haters gonna hate I guess.
Nobody cares about the update, the point of mentioning how long it has been in hiatus was because an irrelevant thread was started with a link to the Renoise demo
What was the possible reason for that ? there is no updated download, the app is in hiatus and has been for 18 months (Sorry if you see the truth as hating)
If anybody wanted a tracker they would end up at the Renoise site at some point, if they wanted anything else it is doubtful they would have any interest. this entire thread stinks of fanboy silliness and if it was posted by a Reaper user it would have been WWIII

It is very much a hobby project and always has/will be, the devs have been very clear about that (To the point where they have even had to correct the fanboy belief on the forum that it was a full time/self sustaining project), also i would hazzard a guess that the long hiatus is simply because they can not afford to just keep updating a hobby project, in these times working for free on a hobby project is always going to fall second place to real paid work.decalogue wrote:that Renoise is more or less a hobby project AFAIK.........
But I'm sure the developers must have burnt their fingers in the past......
So "We are working on it" "Wont tell you anything else" is actually most likely because they have little to nothing of interest to even post about.
Of course somebody may jump in here to try and argue now, but anybody who has been a hobby developer will concur with what i have said, including myself

Same here, but your renoise plan is version based, so you don't lose anything no matter how long it takes. But that's the reason I'm not getting Usine. What does "one year of free updates" get me? It may well be nothing at all.decalogue wrote:I'd personally like it better if the developers were just a little bit more open about their progress, because it also gives us some headroom to plan our purchases and investments.
Also, on being open, just look around: bungle is referring to a pre-v2 (meaning 2008 or earlier) forum post somewhere to imply they somehow broke their word (or something like that, I don't get it) about bringing "regular feature updates".
Or look at the Bitwig thread. 'Announcements' or even 'plans' are suddenly declared "promises" by a certain vocal minority and they get in a fit all over the internet like their life depended on that "promise" being kept. And when the devs don't pay homage to their selfish little tantrum on whatever forum they decided to vent their frustration on, they start screaming "vaporware" or "abandonware", causing actual reputational and sales damage to the devs with no factual basis at all.
So IMO it's much better as a dev to just keep quiet, make only vague allusions to what you might be working on and release when it's done. And this holds especially true when it's a hobby project that will typically move at an irregular pace. Way too many people just can't handle the reality of that kind of project. Better to have them think there's this army of dedicated developers working on it somewhere.

I implied nothing whatsoever, I stated fact, again you like to try and futz any statement of 'fact'
All you are doing is making yourself look very very silly
1 I have never made a bad statement about Renoise (I like it and own it)
2 I have never made a bad statement about the developers of Renoise
3 I never said "Broke their word" in this thread
Please keep your silly "I shall put words in their mouth" attitude to yourself.
Like i said, if this was a Reaper user starting a thread for no reason whatsoever other than advertising Reaper, damn if this place wouldn't explode haha
