Pricewatch is a good place to look:

I've also got a 530, and I upgraded it a bit this year. I already had 4GB of RAM, but I upgraded to an AMD Radeon HD 6570 1GB (around $60) which is the fastest video card I could find that would work. And, I upgraded to a Core2Duo E8500 3.16GHz CPU (around $60) which is the fastest CPU I could find at the time. If you ever decide to upgrade your CPU, you have to check and see if your 530's motherboard will support quad core or not. Mine won't. I also picked up Windows 8 while it was on sale. Anyways, the computer runs much faster now and boots up a lot quicker too. I've been playing Skyrim on it lately at a graphics level comparable to an XBox 360. I haven't checked to see what framerate I'm getting on it, but it feels smooth to me.

There was a BIOS update (I'm on 1.0.18 ) that made my motherboard work with 8 GB of RAM. I think I overstated the cost of the RAM, especially if you go used (plus, I bought a while ago, and prices fluctuate). I sold my previous 4 GB of RAM for relatively cheap on eBay.

Good advice from rtkeeling above.

I just added a SSD for samples and I'm thinking of replacing the OS drive with a SSD also. I guess it's SATA II, so I'm apparently not realizing the full speed of the SSD, but it's a huge boost for me. If I don't buy a new computer, maybe getting a better graphics card and a quieter fan. It's been a workhorse. I even have a hackintosh drive for amusement along with having used every flavor of windows from the past decade.

This all stems from the fact that I just bought Drum Lab from Native Instruments and the ISO installer attempts to install Kontact Player 5.3.0. before installing Drum Lab. Kontact Player 5.3.0 is only Windows 7 or better compatible.

I have Kontact Player 5.1.0 and I'll bet that it would run with that but have yet to figure out a work around.

I have a ticket logged with NI requesting a refund but doubt that will work!

Any ideas?
You can install Kontakt 5.3.0 on XP using Microsoft's Application verifier tool.

Add installer name to the list in appverifier, mark HighVersionLie checkbox and launch installer.

HI - thanks for the info and your help. I downed the verifier and set as you described. I kept the verifier open as I ran the Kontact 5.3.0 installer... unfortunately, installer still came back with "Must have a least System 7..."

I noticed some check boxes under basic were selected.

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

I'm using Windows XP Home with SP/3

Sorry, missed one detail.

Enter this installer name "Kontakt 5 Setup PC.exe" to appverifier.
Write it manually in dialog and press add.

Installer you download "Kontakt 5 5.3.0...." is just self extracting archive (you can unpack it with archivator like 7zip and see). The real installer, which actually checks Win version is packed inside and is named "Kontakt 5 Setup PC.exe"

In appverifier uncheck all other boxes, keep olny HighVersionLie.

I followed you directions. I keep getting the message "This product Reuuires at least System 7" Can not proceed with install" during installation of Kontakt 5 vers. 5.3.0.

OH - I just read your last sentence... sorry, I did not do that.

Back to the drawing boards and btb, thanks for all your great help and coaching ruslan!

Still no go.

I cleared everything under basic in the left panel. I added the ...liehigh. I hand entered the name of the installer.

The only difference is that I unpacked with WinZip not 7zip but I doubt that would make a difference...

Strange... it should work.
Are you pressing "save" after changing checkboxes?
You can also try Right Click on checkbox -> Properties and enter manually Major Version 6, and Minor Version 1. Then save.
"Kontakt 5 Setup PC.exe" installer name should be highlighted in left window when changing any settings.

If above does not work, open command prompt and enter this command:

Code: Select all

appverif -enable HighVersionLie -for "Kontakt 5 Setup PC.exe"
Then launch install.

First "Unblock" the download. You do this by right-click the ".exe" file and select "Properties". On the main tab, lower right side, you will see a message from Windows that to protect your system this file has been blocked by Windows. Click the Unblock button and then click apply (if needed.).

Typically this is the reason why programs do not install correctly and other issues may arise.

Not saying this is exactly the cause of your problem but could very well be a step in the right direction.

Happy Musiking!

I tried to unpack using Zip7 and still no go.

I could not find anything on "unblock/block" with right click on file and properties.

I did see where an option to run installer in compatability mode; 95. ME. 2000

I did notice this in the Version, File version "5.3.0.6464"

Perhaps this is only 64bit with no option to install 32bit???

ruslan - you are truly a bit wizard genius IMHO... thank you, thank you, thank you.

Your command line trick was the fix. I have Kontakt 5.3.0 installed as standalone and VSTi and have tested and they both work perfectly.

Yours is one of the nicest gifts I have received this holiday season!

Best wishes for the holidays and have a safe and prosperous new year!

Now on to install Drum Lab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Now, while trying to install Drum Lab, I get a "Wrong Checksum" message.

I'm going to re-download the installer and try fresh.

Still no luck.

Any ideas?

:) Glad it finally worked with Kontakt.

Wrong checksum probably is not OS related problem.
Usually NI libraries are downloaded as CD *.iso images and it can happen that big file appears broken.
If you have any CD burning software or tools to work with iso images, try to double check downloaded file with them. Some archivators may be able to extract iso contents, check if they produce errors too.
