So, I haven't actually had a chance to try this yet... hopefully tonight. Does anyone that used this already also have Radiator? I'm wondering if this will give a similar sound (minus the eq controls)?

Native Instruments has divorced me! I have Windows Vista and none of the installers will work with that anymore. They're demanding I move to Win 7, which is all very well, but I have a lot of testing and cleaning up to do before I can even attempt that. Cruel.
My music is a fusion of jazz and funk. It's called "Junk"

Didn't get a chance to try it last night, but will tonight. Good to see some positive things said by people whose music I know.

You mean, compared to a waves $400 compressor and a brainworx $300 compressor, this free plugin is not impressive? :D Yea, i guess that might be correct. Havent tried those, but if you do own 'em, i completely understand why you wouldn't use this one.

On topic - i really like this compressor too! This type of oneknob units deliver way too little tweakability usually, but this one does great work imo! Very nice. And klanghelm updated his free oneknob-compressor too, gotta try that one tonight! :)

I thought that Driver last year was a cool little thing to get for free, but it wasn't exactly a tool I use that much. This one will probably get much more mileage.

I don't own either the VSC or API but own a few other established compressors and this one will still gets lots of use especially on my drum buss.

Hi Anthony, they honestly don't sound the same. I did a few tests for you, as i thought instantly that radiator when driven simply sounded better, so i did null tests to make sure i was not in fairy dust land, and sure enough, with the AU in logic, they both report their delay correctly, so when radiator is at 100% dry, it nulls with the other clean channel completely, and the supercharger ALMOST completely nulls, like really really close. It can't null 100% as it is always doing a tiny bit of compression even at the lowest setting, so that is the reason.

So i drove them both and of course was not using the compressor besides the default tiny bit I can't turn off, but rather the dirt and general drive mode of supercharger, and matching volume levels precisely, and they do not even come *close* to nulling. ie as i thought, they simply sound nothing alike.

As i said to you in PM the only one that comes close to radiator so far is the virtual tube preamp, imo.

Hope this helps.

I know you are really really trying to find an alternative to radiator due to the ilok but sometimes one just can't find an alternative. It really is that good.

In fact i have spoken extensively about it to a couple people who HATE "mojo" plugins and that is like one of only 3 or 4 they consider "truly analog".
Cool, thanks for the reply Theo. What are the other plugins that were mentioned? :)

I've got Radiator too but analog "mojo" wise it's nothing like Supercharger. They are both completely different and probably never meant to be anything alike mojo-wise.

I don't think Radiator is any more "analog" like than some of the other established brands. It's awesome, that's for sure, but it's no less "analogue" than a ton of other plugins. Native Instruments soft tube plugins are in my opinion equally impressive.. and so are the Steven Slate plugins.

Personally my current favorite "mojo" plugin is Klanghelm SDRR and U-He Satin. Ironically neither tries to emulate any specific hardware but they are awesome at giving "mojo" to things.

Then there is Bootsie's latest compressor too which is ridiculously good when it comes to analogue mojo.

As a freebie, Supercharger is one of the more impressive things I've encountered. It's ridiculously deep. I've yet to explore even half of what it has to offer (due to the sidechain you can feed it very complex signals and turn it from very peak sensitive to whatever you want really.. heck, I just tried smashing some drums with SDRR in the sidechain and it works brilliantly).

Cheers!

It is running in Windows XP here. This is what I did:

Should work with all NI installers.
