Effect powerhouse in a sound workstation. SampleTank 3 incl over 50 FX - w/ over 20 new effects
So they just blew off these words on FB ,.. "sound workstation"

Is it the before mentioned fussion with Bitwig comming ?

That would explain the year-long silence in both camps :D

A workstation use to be a place where a hole project can be finished

I kind of hope not, to be honest.

At this stage, most people I think just need a sound module. Anything more makes me worried that it's going to bloat up the price so that it's out of reach for me.

So far.....(let me know if I'm correct, Peter)

A. 30 GB of new sounds
B. Can use old Sampletank/IK VST instrument sounds
C. 64 bit compatible
D. Round robin supported
E. Key & Velocity Switching supported
F. Articulations in new instruments
G. Larger interface that will be more readable for users
H. 50+ Effects (an increase from the 30+ that were originally introduced)
I. STRETCH engine still implemented (any changes to it though?)

This sounds great so far. To be perfect for me, I'm just waiting to see if it's still gonna be difficult to import your own samples or instruments from other developers (or other formats), if there is a better way to scroll through sounds & an easier way to implement midi techniques (program changes & cc). Maybe more will come to mind later, but those are the important things for now!
I read more than post = I listen more than I talk

i am thinking Sampletank 3 will be a Halion Sonic clone... with ik multimedia's effects... nothing more or less!!! for me the number on selling point is no ball and chain... i.e. a dongle...

You could do a lot worse than copying HalionSonic2. IMHO, Steinberg got everything right in the latest release.

The list of new features for ST3 looks like they are really swinging for the fences. 50 effects!? My imagination didn't really stretch to the 30 that they already had. Can't wait to see what they came up with.

Also, a new 30g library PLUS the ability to play my old libraries in x64? That for me would be worth the price of admission (though I would hope that this price would be greatly reduced for upgrades).

what i am thinking is... Halion Sonic cost $249 new... Sampletank would have to be competitive to Halion Sonic in price since they basically the same type of instrument... the way i see the upgrade/update pricing is... $99 to $129 for long term users of Sampletank... closer to $99 for individuals that own/brought the Sampletank collect at the full price... $129 to $149 for the group buy individuals...

my thoughts say that 1001 new producers, beatmakers, music makers are born every day... the bulk of ik multimedia's profits on Sampletank 3 will come from new customers... because once Sampletank 3 is released... coupled with the fact of a "nice" upgrade policy... word of mouth will sell Sampletank 3 to these 1001 new producers, beatmakers, music makers that are born every day...

30 gigabytes isn't actually all that much, considering a detailed Kontakt library could easily be around 2-3GB.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

It will be over 2,000 instruments in 20 categories and will rival the sound quality of sound libraries that "dress to impress" with numbers or similar measurement contests (the most family-friendly way I could put that last part). Many ears will be happy with the results - sound-wise, not just volume of sounds (though there will be plenty of that too as you can see from our updates). I've already pointed out how there are more basses and guitars than the included stock libraries of other products, and they are top-quality sounds too.

What you're forgetting is that HalionSonic doesn't have a sampling component like ST. Granted, ST is more of a Rompler, but it does have sampling capabilities as well.

To get this in HalionSonic, you need another $99 upgrade to Halion. But then, of course, Halion's sampling capability would (I assume) completely overshadow anything in ST. So split the difference at a $299 pricepoint?

you are 110% correct... never used the sampling capabilties in ST... that may throw my math/calculations off a little... with that said... Alchemy looks like a good buy for $124 then!!!

30 GB / 2000 instruments = 15 MB per instrument? ;-) or you mean an "instrument" as a "patch" (i.e. several "instruments" could share the sample set)?

lets be honest here... ik multimedia is a player in the music making software game... we expect "rivaling" sound quality from ST3...

only problem i have with ik multimedia is being misinformed (10 months is a long time)... and the way they treat individual who call them out on being misled... that is not right!!! but i do expect "rivaling" sound quality...

Yes they would be patches that may share sample data, of course. Unless we found a lot of very obscure instruments like the fabled throat-singing farting frog and such :)

And don't tell them what you think the price for purchase and upgrade should be!

Salespeople love it when you qualify yourself and you may end up shooting us all in the foot! (wallet)
