You know, for what it's worth, I actually teach "electronic music production" to kids (and grownups) and I find myself spending a considerable amount of time trying to explain the basic structural elements of a dance track. Sometimes if a student is stuck on an eight-bar loop the best advice might be to start working on a preceding build-up.

Incidentally, the terms I generally use to describe the structure of a track are: intro, build-up, drop, break-down, outro. Serious question, do you think I'm missing anything here? I try to relate these terms to the elements of a pop/rock song (i.e. verse, chorus, bridge, etc...)
