What are the things you would have done in their place?
I wouldn't have mentioned a release date! Of course that's easy for me to say, I don't know what their internal situation was.

Still they should try to clean up the mess and set future expectations accurately. If it won't be out this year then: "We need to do a bit more work, it will be out as soon as it's done. We plan to make an announcement X weeks before the release." Then the community knows they can stop thinking about it until the announcement, but also has a small bone thrown to them in terms of what will happen in the future, even though no new release date is set.

There are basically three things that really piss (potential) customers off: feeling ignored, feeling like you (the company) don't understand them, and feeling like they do not understood you (the company). Regardless of the situation those are the universal rage triggers.

They keep posting the teaser videos, which reminds people that they are there and active, but fail to reply to any questions or concerns - which makes people feel ignored. The dudes that are angry feel misunderstood by Bitwig because they are sold on the features and want to try it already - the only communications they get, the teaser videos, are answering a different question than the one they are asking. And nobody really understands why Bitwig can't provide some guidance on the status of the release they publicly committed to a couple months ago. So that's all three things that make people mad, and that's not good.
+1

Yeah... I agree, and ... They should clean up the mess they created, and the cat litter all over the place

re the release date, they gave a pretty big window and were getting flack long before they got near the end of it so I dunno if not saying anything would have fixed it. The rest makes sense I suppose.

Don't recall this being addressed: is automation as retarded as in Live or is it somewhat more logical and less tense? overall, how's the implementation of automation? (Shakespearean action going on here, check 'em)
Brzzzzzzt.

Post

Which parts (excluding PDC) of Live's automation you think are retarded?

That's what it all boils down to in the end.
We don't really know anything about the internal processes that did lead to the "delays".
The only thing I know for sure is that even the most seasoned developers usually guess wrong when it comes to release dates. Many apps would never have been written, it this would be different... :-)

They develop a DAW for 3 OS' at once, they depend on external libraries which may change over the time of development, OSX and Windows were updated considerably in that time which leads to new problems, new betatesters may bring new stuff to the table that before didn't come up... you name it.

I would agree that if they don't make it this year, it would be a good time to say so now officially.

But I also like this English proverb a lot: "Hindsight is cheap".
As co-drivers we are really good, aren't we ;-)

Tom

It'll be ready when it's ready

New Beta 9 today. Tons of bugfixes and smaller improvements, there now is a dropdown in Content Manager to install from DVD instead of from the Website, the Controller section has got a visual update and is clearer, one can now set a cache location for waveform bitmaps etc...
I'll have to explore some more, but overall it's moving on nicely.
Beta expires on January 15th, so draw your own conclusion ;-)

I have no deeper insights, so I might be wrong, but I'd say spring is when the cats get out...

It would be a perfect time, specially with so many sales around (specyally of plug ins) than one could take advantage, things is if they release relatively soon (and I like as much as I think I will) I cant buy both, so I will not be able to buy both (well I hope to be able to buy BWS in the first place) so if I buy VST I will not buy BWS. On the other hand if I dont get the sales and they release it latter I will losse the chance to get some plugs I could really use and rarelly have the chance to buy.

If at least I was in the beta ...

Thanks for the info seems to be very nice stuff, like I started saying if I was in the beta life would be easier in the "small things" :D .
