Not for me. See the post I linked to and wade through the guff. I mention what works with what and what not.

Some people seem to have problems, others don't. It's old technology, but a wonderful synth with a massive amount of free patches. Just need to try it out and see what works for you. Do a test with it first. Save a file, reload, etc.. Sometimes what you reload is not what you saved.

See the post I linked to above. Or just try it for yourself. You really want to grab those free patches though - some real gems in there showing what this synth is capable of.

Azur also got a patch bank freebie for Rapture :)

This is PC only, right? Or did they finally update the installers so they will work on newer versions of OSX?

Also, I never heard any news about Rapture going 64 bit...did I miss something?

thanks, -M

Yep, ultra stable in Cubase 6, 64 bit!

If you don't like it, you can simply de-install it.

It's neither an extraordinary great nor bad synth, sound-wise it's middle-class and its strong points are the free editable envelopes and the modulation possibilities...

Post

Yes, from what i saw, it reminds me of Glass Viper (enveloppes, modulations...)
Does it come anywhere near Harmor (as it can load custom samples) ?
As a Wavetable synth, is it anywhere near Helix, Z2 or Atlantis ?

Post

IMO: Strong points: A whole chain of filters and FX for EVERY layer, lots of modulations possibilities, the ability to create your own multi point envelopes. Many waveforms, nice spacey sounds. Weaknesses: Not many oscillator options, quite clumsy handling, expecially for live use i guess this is a bit of PITA. What weighs for my use the most is the architectural problem that you don't have a "master filter" for all layers, so you have to copy paste the filter and envelope settings for each layer. Which makes Rapture quite different to every other synth.

Anyway, saying all of this, you might have different preferences, so i only can recommend to try it out yourself. :) I also guess Rapture makes quite a good partner to Z3ta, as you can export your waveshaped waves, and import them to Rapture (i guess that's what Cakewalk had in mind, considering the lack of oscillator options in Rapture, and the almost excessive oscillator options in z3ta).

Harmor sounds much better IMO, much more rounded (or call it "warmer"). Compared with Atlantis, Rapture is more "static" and doesn't have all these morphing features like Atlantis -- but sound-wise it sounds a bit better than Atlantis, IMO. (What I love on Atlantis is the Atlantis Filter plugin with all these filters, effects & modulations.)

(I don't have neither Helix nor Z2.)

Thank you for the feedback !

Rapture and Glass Viper in the same sentence? Really :)

Rapture may sound a bit dated to some, but then we're talking about a plugin that hasn't been updated for years. It does have its own character and indeed goes hand in hand with Z3ta ;) May feel cumbersome for the deep preset tweakers, but for guys like me that don't bother to mess with every single synth it's a very cool instrument and comes packed already with very cool & interesting sounds. I see really no excuse not to give it a try (unless it's not working on your computer) ;)

@sinkmusic, just install the synth, it's free, if you don't like it, uninstall it. Like any other synth, you'll have sounds you will, and won't use!

I think it's a fantastic synth with deep modulation options and layering. The sound can be cold and digital but not in a bad way. I still can't believe they offer it for free, the full version.

You should definitely try it and don't forget the 2 free expansions.

Post

I didn't see the free expansions, how do we get these, from the Cakewalk website?
