I been battling a case of the Blues lately (Mild case of depression) and have not had much motivation lately. Tonight I did a bad thing which turned out to be good. I went to a local Casino and took $100 to play with. Well I won $900. 200 of that is earmarked for some bills which leaves $700 to invest in a hardware synth.
Suggestions would be appreciated, although I have been thinking about three possibilities; Alesis Ion ( I can pick one up for $689 plus tax), Dave Smith Instruments Evolver, or MS2000.
Is there any other synths that would be a good buy for that kind of money? 8)

Check the second hand market. With those bucks you might just be able to find a jewel 8)

Hi John, I was feeling the water was too far above me to reach (for puechasing a synth) I felt it would take me too long to save. Lady luck found me tonight :D
I like the MS2000 but the Ion really appeals to me for the sound ( I have heard alot of people have had problems with theirs tho) I also like the demos of the Evolver (being part analogue and part digital is tempting) the fact that it is a monosynth is making me hesitate, but if the PolyEvolver was cheaper I would get that for sure. 8)

yeah well done on that but remember it rarely happens :wink:
mines only a few minor hitches i know itll be before christmas so i aint to bothered really but the korg had me sold mainly because i can plug my guitar into it too :-o and mess about with the sound in there
the idea for me is to go live with it so an all in one synth fx box is less to put in the back of a taxi :D

In your place I would take the Evolver. It might be a monosynth, but is sounds AMAZING, and in your hands it will be a deadly instrument.

We have talked about this Mark, it is very tempting. My fear is that if I wait too long the money will slowly dissapear for other things ( I am being impatient, I want it now :lol: )

Thanks for the compliment, Prog. I love that little beasty. I have heard that it does not really behave like a monosynth so I am still tempted and it is cheaper that the Ion and I can eventuaslly a Remote 25 as well to give me more control of the Evolver.

Decisions, decisions??? 8)

Decisions -> actions -> joy -> inspiration -> music

It makes sense.....

Go for the evolver; you know you want it :D

Or a microQ.I've seen used microQs around here for $300-400 recently.The interface sucks(I use SoundDiver to edit),but it sounds splendid :D

physical models on the z1 are a blast.. ttbomk the ms2000 synthesis engine does not improve upon the z1. the synthesis capabilities aren't all that compared to s/w today (4 lfos, 5 egs, 1-3 oscs unless using a 'multitunedoscs osc') and the x-y pad requires more pressing than the laptop mouse touchpads today but that'd be my first choice (unless you can find a bunch of great deals.. jjjshop.com used?? to have a $100 wavestation, only fx section broken..)

or pro-one and midi/cv :)
