Geist - Free expansion pack and new skins

It seems Geist is at 1.1.1.8 now. Anyone knows if the skins work on it too?

I can contribute some patches if you want just simply as a thanks. They'd be mainly basses for Strobe but i could upload them somewhere for you to check, just say, if it's viable.

The Geist stuff sounds very interesting anyway, i haven't really messed around with the skins; i just stick with the default but a good GUI should not be overlooked and it does factor into it when i buy plugins! So i'll have to give these a run!

But the aforementioned pluggies are three of my most used plugins so i'm stoked that you're doing this.

Some patches for Strobe would be awesome! Seeing as mine will be mainly the drum sounds I used to make up the Geist Expander with a few added basses on top, they will fit right in.

As for the Geist skin, go on - try it!

It will take you less than a minute to fire up and nothing can go wrong, if you don't like it just replace your resources folder. To be fair, all I have done is mainly a bit of 'colour work'. I really love the original skin and couldn't improve on it If I tried. So I didn't venture too far off from what you are already used to.

As for Cypher, I've been making plans for that and figuring out some designs. Again, very simple stuff based on the hard work that FXpansion have already done. But I reckon things should translate ok.

I did the update on the skins specifically for the latest version of Geist. It took quite a long time to track down the one or two changes in the GUI code to make it work.

So, yes, they should work with the latest version. I will try to keep it up to date always with the latest version. Unless FXpansion change something really big in the code or even harder to track down, this should be possible.

Then again, they are pretty decent fellows over there at FXpansion HQ and I could always mail them and ask.

If you have any problems using the latest skins with the latest version, PM me and let me know.

Thanks again for that. I just want to be clear that we are talking about FXpansion Strobe here, not Geist. I will start a new thread on this when it is done.

I'm just in the process of putting this all together once and for all. I've been talking about doing this for about 2 years now and I just want to get it out of the way.

90 percent of the work is done.

What will be included:

2 new skins for Strobe. A bank of Strobe presets that were used to make up my Strobe-Syndrum Expander, another bank of presets focusing on bass sounds and some of the modulation options that Strobe provides in spades. Dubstep wobbles and Drum and Bass type stuff. Plus the presets donated by musikmachine.

I am also working on another Geist Expander featuring the drum sounds of Drumatic and Drumaxx, plus a few of my other paid for drum machines. There will also be another couple of new Geist skins to accompany these. Of course there will be a plethora of patterns and audio loops included too. Expect bigger and better than what you got with Strobe-Syndrum.

This will all be available via free download.

However, this time I shall be asking for people to contribute something to Kris Weston's fund for him making his new album. He is still going with this and soldiering on despite the fact that he has had to drop a couple of world-class musicians due to lack of funds. They were going to give their services for practically nothing compared to what they usually get, but unfortunately even these small funds were not forthcoming. Anyway, every one is cracking on with it and if you can donate something to Kris, fine, if not, you can still download it all for free anyway.

This will go for both the Strobe skins and presets and the Geist skins and presets.

They may be done in the next weeks, but probably we are talking about months.

I have another Geist project that I have taken on for someone else and I need to get that finished first before finishing this.

Those will be paid for stuff by the way.

But then, I assure you you can expect some new killer Geist skins and presets/kits/loops. I make no money from this and give my time for free. There has been months of work gone into this. And the only thanks I have got is people saying 'thanks' in this thread. That is enough for me. This time however, I really hope you are going to show your appreciation and donate something to Kris's campaign. See the link in my sig. And if a few of you can see your way to making some donations to Kris right now, that would be heartening.

If I get thousands of people downloading with no one giving a penny, then this will be the last I do of anything for free. But this will still always remain free for ever.


Thanks to the people that have provided the server space for my other Geist expander.That costs money and they have done it for nothing, just so others can dl it freely. And thanks to FXpansion for not putting the dampers on this project. This is totally unofficial and not endorsed by them in any way. You use these skins and presets at your own risk. FXpansion have been very lenient in turning a blind eye however, so more power to them.

I will just repeat what I have said before. If anyone at all runs into any problems with these presets/skins, then let me know. The presets to be fair are not going to cause problems really. The skins and GUI changes however, might. So far I have not received one complaint. If you have a problem then contact me via PM. I think it is fairly safe to say that these skins whilst not official will not cause any problems on your system if you follow the basic instructions.

Btw, if you have any Strobe presets you would be happy to donate to the project, then PM me. I still have a cut off point of a few weeks away to include them.

The Expanders available for Geist have been my inspiration here. They have shown what is possible. For very little money you get some serious sounds and loops and patterns included. I own every one I think except for maybe one. I can tell you, the time and effort and talent gone into making these far outstrips the resources and the experience that I have to offer.

But then again, you do get some new free skins with my stuff. Please feel free to tell me what kind of skins you like - dark or light. Or make any constructive criticisms on my past efforts.
