I don't understand why a lot of people replying to this seem to say "oh you should have got this" or "why didn't you ask these guys for some free stuff". This isn't helpful or constructive at all, the guy has Cubase why not work with what he has told you?

I think Tyrell by U-he is a great quite powerful free synth from that list. Also perhaps check out the Samples forum for lists of free samples. There are loops and MIDI patterns I think too that might be good to get people started.

Perhaps you and your students could learn some valuable LIFE (DIY) AND music tech lessons by designing and building your own MIDI controllers with inexpensive, entry-level kits like this one:
