I just got an iPad Mini Retina 32G, and want to load it up with some music apps. Here's the plan. I want to use it mostly as a scratch pad for song ideas, and to get song structures going (parts, chords, some riffs or melodic ideas, lyrics). But I'm not gonna complete the song on it. That will be done on the computer.

The genre is electronic pop/rock/metal, with sequenced drums and bass parts. Well, actually the only recorded audio parts will be some guitars and vocals. All else will be MIDI tracks.

So I would like some suggestions on the DAW software that can get these going quickly. I don't need extra features to finalize the song on the iPad, so something like Auria will probably not be of any use for me, especially without MIDI. However, audio recording is a must, so that I can get the vocal/guitar in.

Also, please suggest me some good synths/drum machines/romplers that can interact well with the DAW. Maybe I also need Amplitube? Will I be able to record guitar from Amplitube while other parts are playing back on the DAW? Can all the apps play together in real time?

And last question, what is the best sounding analog-modeled synth out there on iOS? :D

Thanks ya!
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here. ;)

Garageband is a great starting point. I think you get it free since you just got an iPad.
Alchemy Mobile is a great synth app as are Sampletank, Thumbjam and Animoog.
Drums = DM1, Drumjam

"LoopyHD" for looping live or studio.

I'll let others give ya the sequencing stuff.

I can recommend TouchOSC and our free KeyPad template http://www.discodsp.com/keypad/

if you happen to run Cubase on your desktop then you want to have a closer look at Cubasis - you can transfer your sketch from iPad to computer...
there's a gazillion of synths out there - be sure to pick one with at least AudioBus ( and / or InterAppAudio ). Thor / iMini / iMS20 / iPolysix come to mind in terms of good synth.

Thanks guys. Got Garageband and Alchemy Mobile. I wonder if it's possible to send MIDI from Garageband (or any iOS DAW) to other synths and route their audio output back in in real time?

don't know about Garageband, but Cubasis,BeatMaker2 can send MIDI to other apps ( synths ) and receive their audio ( via AudioBus or InterAppAudio ) for sure.
