Sorry for beating this to death but can anyone direct me to a good FAQ/glossary for the stuff you folks discuss here?

I mean, I'm so green, I don't even know what a "host" is... :help:

TIA,

Earl

sonar is your host ...

... a host can be anything that can load (ie - host) instrument or effect plugins of whatever type (like vst / dx / etc)

not sure i know of an all-encompassing beginners FAQ anywhere though ...

... just ask away here if you cant find anywhere - we ALL started off not knowing anything at some point and youll usually find someone willing to answer even really basic questions here ...

... just remember to post up some .mp3s of your music once you become an expert

Rob,

Thanks!

If SONAR is my host, then what is VSampler?

Also, although I don't have any MIDI recordings yet, you can sample a couple of my audio recordings here.

Thanks again,

Earl

pdlstl,

Think of it this way: A host justs plays 'host' to other noise making thingys, just think of 'host' as 'enviroment'.

Host = Cubase, Cakewalk, Tracktion, EnergyXT, Buzz, Storm, Fruityloops.

Anything you load within a host is not a host (kinda thin ice here, as one can load up energyXT in Cubase, but for the sake of explanation the above is true).

Some VSTI's come as standalone versions, i would not consider these hosts as the do not 'host' other software.

i hope that clears it up a lil?

Yes, that helps quite a bit.

So, is this feasible...I can purchase a grand piano sample (is sample the correct term?) load it in to VSampler, then play it with a MIDI controller and record the MIDI in SONAR?

Or, do I record the MIDI then run it through VSampler?

Thanks for all your great information!

Earl

This is EXACTLY correct. Although i would think you could get away with a free piano sample if you looked ;)

Thanks!
