Sad to see there was an obituary on the BBC TV news tonight, which is paraphrased on their website:-

Coincidentally, I watched a performance of the Firebird Suite 3 or 4 days ago.

It can be found on YT. I watched the 20:54 (1919) version. Recommended viewing/listening (If you like Stravinsky).

Wow, I posted a Youtube clip of Abbado conducting Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen in that Temporary KVR thread on music you would like played at your funeral.

With Carlo Maria Giulini and Giuseppe Sinopoli already gone I guess only Nino Rota's student, Riccardo Muti remains from that generation of famous Italian conductors.

one of my favourite conductors. saw and was listening to several concerts in Berlin, when he conducted 'Die Berliner Philharmoniker'.

i used to have a berlin philharmonic lp (double or triple lp?) with claudio conducting beethoven's 9th.
