Well, I can say he's promoted the use of cracked plugins. Good example for the kids,no?

I think Avicii is working hard and actually making music he likes, and making a great living doing it. Hard to find much fault in that.

Personally I don't have super strong feelings about Avicii, other than to say I respect him for being a creator. He's done more with his music than anyone I've seen here.
Totally agree. All i wanted to say (i can only speak for myself) was, that i don't like the style of his newer tracks ( don't know about the old ones), and that it's weird that he has success with this style. You never know though, if it's really "his" style. It's known that he has people mixing his tracks e.g., as he has no idea about it. So i wouldn't wonder if he (like many others nowadays) has some sort of "style manager". It seems extremely important to build up your own musical identity and character these days, in pop music.

Yes producers should buy their software, and quite frankly none of us really know if he did or not. However, according to Scott from Image Line ...
Image-Line wrote:FWIW: Tims (Avicii) manager informs me that he does have licenses for all the plugins seen in the video.

I think Future Music is also to blame for not checking what goes out on video. They shouldn't promote videos that appear to promote cracked software.

This thread was directed at trashing Avicii's music, which is what I take issue with. I have a lot of respect for people with the guts to create and put their work out there. I get people may not like his style of music, but I'm just stating I respect Avicii for creating, being passionate about his music, and trying to be somewhat original.

Not sure about this. It builds up exactly the opposite - similarity, pop standard. (character?? Oh gosh...). They are not independent anymore. They do what they've been told to do (hence earning more because of the massive promotion). Artists have to make a choice, to be independent and create their unique stuff for minors (because of the lack of promotion) and not getting much money from it or make what it's been told to do, but earning more, much more...

But that's actualy what i meant. You get your public image built by people in the background. Pretty typical for pop stars these days. (not only those, Formula 1 racing drivers always have their public relation manager in the background in interviews, recording what they say...)

But in this case, isn't it courageous from him to mix country music with trance? I don't believe that his manager could have said "Let's mix country with trance to get some success in Texas..." Must be his own idea...

If he would mix German schlager music with trance, his record label would promote it, too, just because it's from Avicii. If someone others would make the same thing, they would instantly delete the demo without responding...

He is a good example how music is going into wrong direction...Avici,Tiesto and the others produce trance only by popularizing sh@it...i don't know why people call they music "TRANCE"-maybe i'm from stone age and don't get it :D

The Art Of Fighting Without Fighting

It's all about the $$$.

Country music makes the biggest money in the US. Fact. You either get on-board or fight for the crumbs.

When something mass-produced and suit-powered is created and designed to push everything else to the side, when it's played on the radio constantly and over-represented everywhere due to agressive selling and designing it from the ground up in a mode of thought that seems to be inspired by the world of advertising, when so much fame and celebrity is daubed onto so few individuals while most talented artists are unheard of and probably starving (because who can compete with the fatcats who increasingly design everything around maximising profit?)... You can expect some people who are passionate about music to be annoyed at this apparent "paving over" of the music scene at large.

Full disclosure: I have no feelings about the artist either way - musically or ethically.

To me, this track sounds like a cynical and no doubt highly effective attempt to cash in on the current "EDM" trend, yet fuse it with an accessible country orientation to meet the appetite of middle america. As such, I predict it will sell a metric shitload and garner immense airplay on mainstream media. Kudos to the guy for trying something new, even if I think it sucks balls.

Well, it's the same with Electro. Remember commercial Electro House. Now it's called electro! (wtf??)

Or commercial techno with tonnes of cowbell-like sounds. (That's what Richie Hawtin puts now in every soundset...)
