Berlin Modular (ancient thread)

It's not Bazille (necessarily), it's your buffer size. Don't know why I needed to change my settings all of a sudden but I had to hike it up pretty high to keep from getting the dreaded crackles.
A basic sine wave, multiple notes, with some release gives me a pretty heavy hit. In fact I'm having trouble producing a sine wave that doesn't give me crackles with my buffer set as high as it will go. Arpeggiations on pretty complex patches (one note) will produce a much lighter load. Sorry if this has been gone over already.
This thing is absolutely stunning for FM patches, love the control it gives me over the waves. Most patches using chords though are just too much for my 8 core MacbookPro from 2012. Ha! Such a processor hog.

Due to the nature of Bazille where every cable can be plugged into anything else - like in ACE - everything needs to be processed at once in one big lump of code. Thus each patch uses the full CPU of a voice, no matter what.suburbanthug wrote:A basic sine wave, multiple notes, with some release gives me a pretty heavy hit.
Hence, for simple sounds it's always advisable to use something different

I know back in the day Urs said that current owners of A.C.E. would get the full credit towards Bazille. Does anyone know if this still the case?

The full credit of ACE goes towards Berlin Modular. Bazille is another spin-off of that project.masterhiggins wrote:I know back in the day Urs said that current owners of A.C.E. would get the full credit towards Bazille. Does anyone know if this still the case?

Berlin Modular is going to be a system similar to Eurorack modulars with slots for exchangable modules. We haven't spent much more work on this because it just doesn't yet run on today's CPUs.

so it would make sense to use Bazille/Berlin strictly as a monophonic modular, like an Eurorack system. Is that correct?Urs wrote:each patch uses the full CPU of a voice, no matter what.
For me it would make sense. I never understood why virtual modular systems even had the option to play polyphonically without building separate voices or voice patches per voice. It's not the right approach I think. Giving away sound quality against polyphony. I would be glad if this was/is not the case with Bazille/Berlin Modular.

You can use Bazille polyphonically... as long as you have the cpu power... and with the multicore capability, you can play quite few simultaneous voices on todays better cpu's!Phil999 wrote:so it would make sense to use Bazille/Berlin strictly as a monophonic modular, like an Eurorack system. and of course you always have the option to use it monophonically... even exclusively so... but I am glad I don't have to!

very glad you can use it duophonically. not much of a cpu hit, if that's important, and it offers a hole 'nother avenue to explore.pdxindy wrote: You can use Bazille polyphonically... as long as you have the cpu power... and with the multicore capability, you can play quite few simultaneous voices on todays better cpu's!

Thanks for the clarification, Mr. Heckman! I was wondering why I was using taking a 45% CPU hit on those sine waves!
I'll stick to single cycle waves for that sort of application from now on.

I've run into a situation where Live 9.1.1 asks me if I'd like to save my files after I haven't made any modifications. This is limited only to files using Bazille 0.6.

I'm getting this too, is this due to Bazille being in beta?moscom_electronics wrote:Hey,
could there be the same demo glitch on the latest Bazille build as the one that was corrected for Diva? I used this build today in Live, and it was making noise bits from time to time.
Thanks in advance!
M
Edit: just to clarify, I've got a new project open with only Bazille loaded. Loving this thing already, just not the intermittent noise.

You need to install the refreshed version from the first post of this thread. It's fully functional in 2014

Just wondering:
1. Is there any plans to include amazing Diva filters in Bazille
2. Is it possible to have paraphonic like mode i.e. when notes are cycled thru oscs (like on mono/poly)>

1. I'm contemplating to add something to Bazille's filters that we would call "Magic" as opposed to "Divine" (some idea I have been working on that may sound nearly as good as Divine, but with the CPU load of "Fast")david.beholder wrote:Just wondering:

2. We haven't really thought of that yet. There's the Duophonic mode naturally, but I agree that Bazille might beg for a Quadrophonic mode... hmmm...
