You can never use Jampoints for sale items. So, there goes your plan if the price you're talking about is an introductory sale/upgrade price.soulster wrote:Long time SampleTank user here.
If ST3 is in the $49-$99 range for the upgrade, I might just use some JamPoints and make the purchase.

yeah, the jampoints are IK's way to show their appreciation towards their customers. the rest pay exactly the same or less in one of the many sales usually (where exactly the customers can't use their jampoints then).
ps. why this topic still say "countdown to.." which countdown? better change the topic.

same here if upgrade price isn't really great i wont upgrade to st3. even thought i have so many expansions for it im not willing to pay to much for what looks like a 64 upgrade.
i picked up kontakt at a great price a while back and thats been really taking over the job st2.5 had.
and i paid full price for sampletank years back so hope for a really great upgrade price if not no upgrade.
and by the looks of it im not the only one
hope ik mutimedia r paying attention because this is not the only fourm i have read almost the same thing being said here.

Maybe change it to 'Count Around the ST3'murnau wrote:

I think I may not be as frustrated with all this, since I really didn't expect much from ST2 in the beginning. With that attitude, it could only get better, and it has for me, even by just dealing with this 'older' software I now have from them.
Like some others here, I feel a simple change in GUI and upgrade to 64bit would really satisfy the customer base sufficiently and let the extended libraries come as they happen.
Got to play with it for awhile yesterday, once I got the hang on the laptop it was on, it went better. IK really should have put it on a better computer though, I think if I would have pushed it, that little laptop would have completely crashed. I did have to get someone to reboot it though since it froze on me once. But I'm sure that was the computers fault (and IK should have thought this through better).
The new 'library' was good, but very small and maybe my 'expectations' of it being more detracted from it. All superficial, as I didn't dig into any tweaking of filters or such.
But the UI is much nicer. At this point though, I'm not expecting anything from it until I see something from it.
And ironically, the parts of TS3(ST2) that's giving me problems are the 64bit effects and Amplitube3. Figure that one out.

I would think most people have made the switch away from Sampletank. That is just how it is. Other companies have payed attention to their Romplers / Samplers. IK didn't. I bought ST years ago... Same with a couple other of their VI's. They served a purposed but I have moved on. I think that is probably the same story with others. I like Cubase so I decided to put my money into Halion which is working out great.
I've been moving away from all my IK stuff. They have some great products but their focus is all over the place. I get it, they want to break into the iPad market before others but it is too late. Other companies have jumped in there already. This is still the Niche Market and we are the Niche group.
When you constantly see a company having group buys and what not, it makes you wonder about their intent. I'd always recommend support forward thinking products. Microsoft and Apple have left 32 bit in the dust years ago, you should do the same. Intel and AMD have left 32 big in the dust years ago, you should do the same. IK has partially got the idea with their other products but have just waited too long with their sampler.
The sounds IK has are really good... That is about where it ends.

IK at it's current price points in group buy psychology makes it a logical decision as long as your purchase doesn't include the idea of re-couping any of that cost by reselling it later.monkeymanx wrote:I would think most people have made the switch away from Sampletank. Even at 32b, the sound is more usable than say Dimension Pro under 64b, for me.
Kontakt free's library is not that impressive and to jump into the full version to get the thrid party sounds that are impressive (also expensive and at times, as much as Kontakt itself) is prohibitve. The sounds for Engine are only slightly less in cost and even with Engine being a free download, still may not fit the bill for a complete basic, usable package. Garritan (with the free Aria player), is even more specialized in that regard.
So at the current price points in promotions, IKM is logically the best solution (whether or not it's temporary) for anyone needing to cover a lot of bases as well as they do, and on a budget.

the expensive libraries are those which work with the free kontakt player version also (hence the license cost).Kontakt free's library is not that impressive and to jump into the full version to get the thrid party sounds that are impressive (also expensive and at times, as much as Kontakt itself) is prohibitve.
usually you deal with stuff which work with full only. those libs are real bargains. so the cost you invest in full kontakt paying then back if you want.
anyway, buying komplete full for 50% off in a sale or easily kontakt or whatever 2nd hand (thumbs up for NI' customer friendly transfer policy) isn't that difficult.

True, but for some, waiting for the annual Kontakt sale might not serve their needs now. Total Studio 3 on its last promotion went for around $85.00 - even some of the cheaper Kontakt libraries will cost that and not have the range of instruments it has. Plus even on sale, Kontakt is going to run a couple of hundred. I'm not talking one over the other except in logistics of cost budgeting.murnau wrote:the expensive libraries are those which work with the free kontakt player version also (hence the license cost).Kontakt free's library is not that impressive and to jump into the full version to get the thrid party sounds that are impressive (also expensive and at times, as much as Kontakt itself) is prohibitve.

Figure in cost only the price of Total Studio3 against Komplete 9 Ultimate to get the same number of effects and sounds and IK at less than one tenth the price.
Right now, with some of my holiday self gifting of a 'Kontakt Xmas', I'm using them about half and half. Without having everything to replace ST2 and still having other usable things in ST2, it's still the quickest solution for someone needing to do things without hitting their wallet so hard.
There are things I agree with about IK policies and release dates, but I still can't beat it for the price. The rest is just a bonus of whenever.

i found the IK sounds show their age nowdays. now with all the other stuff i own they are only boring and mediocre but to each their own.

Yeah, I've heard that about a lot of classic instruments. Classical guitars, traditional drums, old synthesizers, old drum machines, pianos....I mean, really, Who uses Pianos now a days?

People are still using our sound libraries. Whether its in the James Bond “Skyfall” theme or in Gotye's “Somebody That I Used to Know”. Its all in how you use the tools.

I love it how IK stays away for 3 pages or so of bashing, then comes in with this comment (which somehow has relevance...in any discussion). I mean, who cares about quality, a piano is a piano! SMDH.

Top quality producers and artists are using our products for the quality sounds they provide. SampleTank 3 will bring even higher quality sounds and effects in this next generation of SampleTank.donato wrote:ObiK wrote:Yeah, I've heard that about a lot of classic instruments. A good and fair PR comeback. I probably would've said the same if I were in your position. Speaking of which, where's Peter? From the last few pages people are out for blood. I was logging in to hopefully see one of his meltdown reactions where he loses his cool.
