I saw Peter at the show. I asked where Obie was. He said he didn't come.
I guess they drew straws... ;)

I'm happy for IKM about that, but I need to use my currently available ST 2.5 (really just SampleTron and Sonik Synth) stuff now on my 64 bit system (Logic X). This producer (me!) is going to have to swap out all the tracks that I was in process of recording or already recorded with Logic stuff. That doesn't sit well with me as I do like IKM a lot. I'm not buying the full ST 3. This is a fiasco. I have no hate toward IKM, but I find this a massive disappointment.

Btw, as single event or effect type pianos, I have to put ST as equal to Kontakt's supplied pianos. Neither one has pianos I would use as anything more than a percussive or minimal tonal effect.

But there are some sounds that ST2 has that I prefer over the multitude of the same instrument I have in other VIs.

Post

I have no doubt that ST3 will be a great product with tons of usable stuff, as basically every IK product is top quality IMO. First time buyers looking for a workstation will certainly be happy.

But in the end, ST3 is just a rewrite of ST2 that doesn't bring much new to the table. As always it boils down to company policy and pricing, ie. how will IK cater to the many ST2.5 users, especially those who are only looking for an up to date shell for their ST2.5 instruments. Personally, I will *not* fork out 150€+ for an update to a player with apparently no real new features (except for new effects) but 30GB of sounds that I don't necessarily need. I have plenty of great basses, pianos, drums, synths and what not already.

TBH, I'm a bit disappointed about how little information we've got so far, especially regarding pricing.

NAMM ends in a little more than an hour. Will we get anything more in the way of information. updated screenshots, pricing etc ?

I'm personally looking forward to Sampletank 3's release. It's a good chance i'll be buying it as a new customer and not a upgrader. Have a couple sampler-synths now I'm looking to move on from and sampletank seems like one of the better choices and IK tends to have one of the better price/quality/business-model ratios out here.

T2 Icarus is a must. SonicCore SCOPE is the most. As heart of studio it has my vote, cause XITE-1 is all she wrote.

Doubtful, at least nothing more than has already been 'leaked' in these threads. Can't say the showing was a must see for most either, I walked up to it and played with it with no one looking on for about an hour. Everyone else there seem to be absorded into iThings...

Hmmmm that's a shame...........Seems like ST3 has received a lukewarm reception so far. I love iK Software but to be honest their marketing strategy is frustrating.

I suppose the iToy market is where the money is......... :?

Absolutely. Because the iMarket will not only buy everything they can, but park on a sidewalk a week ahead of its release to do so without knowing much more than "it will available".

Kontakt free's library is not that impressive and to jump into the full version to get the thrid party sounds that are impressive (also expensive and at times, as much as Kontakt itself) is prohibitve.
the expensive libraries are those which work with the free kontakt player version also (hence the license cost).

usually you deal with stuff which work with full only. those libs are real bargains. so the cost you invest in full kontakt paying then back if you want.

anyway, buying komplete full for 50% off in a sale or easily kontakt or whatever 2nd hand (thumbs up for NI' customer friendly transfer policy) isn't that difficult.
True, but for some, waiting for the annual Kontakt sale might not serve their needs now.

As opposed to ST3 being ready now? Please let me know where I can buy that. Kontakt on sale is $199 which can dependably be bought on sale. ST3 doesn't even know when it will be released. Kontakt you can buy outstanding third-party libraries at very cheap prices. I seriously doubt ANY third party vendors will be making many libraries for ST3. You seem to be the only (or close to only) fanboy here for ST3, and that's fine. But you still need to look at things objectively. Even disregarding how IK has completely screwed their initial customers, their new product doesn't stand on its own.

I guess the good thing is that we'll all have the opportunity to buy second-hand ST3 in six months (maybe if it is actually released on time) for very very cheap. Of course we'll have to pay a ridiculous transfer and download fee, but I guess I'm just trying to look at the positives. This product is a complete dumpster-fire. I am sure the reps are just throwing their hands up at this point wondering why they work for such a company. For the first time I actually feel sorry for them. The cigarette companies are more honest and reliable! :hihi:

I'm only comparing what's already on the market.
Kontakt5 is $399.00 except for the one time of year it gets dropped to $199.00
And the no-brainer deal with NI is jumping into Komplete at $499.00
IKM has promotions more often and with the last one TotalStudio3 could be picked up around $85.00 and it included their 64b effects and Amplitube3
No going into any of the other stuff, just simply put, even if part of their studio is still 32b, it's easier to justify the initial cost. Unless you have a DAW that doesn't support a bridge to allow it to work. Hopefully, you got more use out of it than those that just recently bought it. And if your DAW won't let it run, I hope you're making as much noise to them as you are IKM.

And IKM still has no 64 bit workstation. So that comparison isn't fair. Their sounds are a decade old. They have lied to and treat their customers like shit. They have PREVIEWED a lackluster product with no solid release date or upgrade pricing. In any case, I really wish things would turn around. I used to find their stuff useful. But whatever you say, consumers will vote with their wallet. And judging by the comments here, the product is dead before release in my opinion. They will lose their asses unless they change things drastically and soon. Again, an observation and opinion, but the public has spoken. Good for you if you buy it. Let us know how that goes, but I'm pretty sure I know the answer.
