My question is, does it make K5 or ST any less of what they are to say what they are instead or trying to make them something they aren't? Personally I think that makes less of the person trying to push the idea they are something they aren't. (I think there is even a legal term and definition for those people).

Agreed. That common misnomer is nothing more than Marketing Hype.
You said it two or three pages ago. It's just NI Marketing Hype that people like to repeat. To be honest, even with all my "blustering" that I've been displaying in the past few post, I sometimes fall under the "spell" and call them Samplers too when I know they're not.
Sometimes its easier to go along with the "program" for the sake of quick communications.

So referring to someone as gay because they are homosexual is a misnomer because it doesn't mean that they are happy? :/
I could provide dozens of examples of where the meanings of words have changed with time, but frankly I can't be arsed laboring a point. Heck that's why the good people who create them continue to revise them each year.

My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

Again, I understand the paradox. I mean, take one of those funny apps for the Ipad: they let you record your voice ("digital conversion") and manipulate it on a virtual piano keyboard, add effects, "robot voice", "alvin and the chipmmunks" singing tone etc. and I realize the old glorious 25.000 $ Synclavier is a toy compared to this 0.79$ app. It hurts, yes.

I wish I'd known you were there, I'd have met you at their booth.BBFG# wrote:Doubtful, at least nothing more than has already been 'leaked' in these threads. Can't say the showing was a must see for most either, I walked up to it and played with it with no one looking on for about an hour. Everyone else there seem to be absorded into iThings...
The price will probably be unveiled soon. They told it to me already and it's a tremendous value for what ST3 is. This will be the first workstation with modeled studio quality reverbs, EQ's, compressors, and effects built-in, as well as the first with a full-fledged, comprehensive mixing engine. It's very conceivable that people could begin making music solely with ST3 and use their DAW's only as MIDI sequencers.

Yes, it depends on the context and conversation. The idea of trying to fit one in that box and remove the other when neither belong in that box is the context though. So relatively at this point, the misnomer must be dispelled to show that K5 and ST2 have far more in common than some would like to admit (and probably won't anyway, regardless of the fact they still belong in the same group of players.)sodbuster-ca wrote:BBFG# wrote:No, it's a question of accepting the fact over the common misnomer.

Instead they jump on every thread and hijack it with the same old tired, re-hashed arguments because it doesn't fit their own strict dictionary definition.
E.g "gay" does not mean that a person is simply happy anymore.
Yawn.
Hijacking Threads?
Beating Dead Horses?
OK. But you need to add "FINGER WAGGING" to your list and then go look in the mirror.

Lables/Names do change over time. Especially if they were initially based on some inconsequential notion or trait. It happens often.Ben H wrote:So referring to someone as gay because they are homosexual is a misnomer because it doesn't mean that they are happy? :/

Even in the science community there are instances where technical definitions change but that is very rare. One instance comes to mind in the case of PLUTO. The community of Astrophysicists modified the definition of a planet and dropped PLUTO from the list because it no longer fit the new definition. (The other eight large bodies in our solar system are still called planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus & Neptune).
As far as I know, the technical definition of Audio Sampling has not changed.
(My point of reference is that of an Electrical Engineer & a musician).

There are many words with dual/triple/etc meanings but sampler was never and should never be truly defined as a different meaning today vs yesterday, it's only a misleading term that got accepted. Someone stated that there are no more samplers that they died in the 1990's and in the modern age software sample-players are now samplers but this is definitely false. There are several ITB samplers in this modern Era that do differentiate themselves as Samplers by stating they actually sample (record). Sampling is a differentiating feature those ITB samplers have and it isn't fair to those products ITB that do actually sample to cover up what sets them apart (BFD, Reason's Redrum, Sonic Core SCOPE's STS 5000). Most words in the dictionary have multiple meanings but that doesn't mean we should try to explain everything with one word or conveniently give words different hidden meanings to mislead and sell products. I suppose its fair to call a sample-player a Physical Modeled synth as well to get the synth crowd when more profit is needed? There are ITB samplers that actually sample thus the definition of sampling definitely has not changed, FXPansion even touts that their Sampler actually samples and it is a valid point for them as well as a differentiating feature that sets their product apart, to blurr the lines isn't fair to them and the others who's products do actually sample.Ben H wrote:So referring to someone as gay because they are homosexual is a misnomer because it doesn't mean that they are happy? :/

T2 Icarus is a must. SonicCore SCOPE is the most. As heart of studio it has my vote, cause XITE-1 is all she wrote.

Possibly. We're able to offer T-RackS and ARC Upgrades so I imagine we'll also be able to offer these.bill45 wrote:Uncle E, are you going to handle st3 upgrades?

Ooh look a squirrel, (but I still smell dead horse). Some people are so easy to derail.
Uncle E: I just got my Arc5 delivered, will be setting it up tomorrow. Still trying to get the Amplitube loaded and running though. Go figure, my IK 32 bit VSTs run perfectly and my IK 64bit have posed 'issues'.
