Guess not. Just some teasers and private showings that happened to coincide with NAMM and end up being talked about like they were at NAMM.Kriminal wrote:Did Roland actually say the Aira series would be at NAMM?

Subterfuge!
I think when one is claiming or speculating VA/digital ... they should at least make the distinction between partially VA/digital, and entirely so.
though nerd rage probably doesn't allow for nuanced thinking

Folks I also found this posted April 11, 2013 from Nite Liferecordingsltd.

"Today I was honoured to meet Jun-Ichi Miki, the new President of Roland Corporation from Tokyo. Something like this has never happened ever before in the history of electronic music. We can expect analogue synthesizers from Roland in the near future. Life is now." He also says "The Beginning of new Roland products
" and " Everything I told him will come..."
This means folks, we have to wait and see

A third hand comment from nearly a year ago- that's really grasping at straws...

not to be a pedant...but it's a 1st hand comment, it's the information that's 2nd hand. And is it really clutching at straws, when you consider who the 1st hand is - the president of Roland ?
Dude even posted a picture of himself with the pres.
But of course, it's reasonable to be skeptical until we know for sure. But still I think it's a little unfair to call it 'clutching at straws' ...
when the alternative seems to be believing some relatively anonymous gearslutz user who made a comment about using the unit for 45 minutes, and very quickly deleted the comment, when he says VA {with no distinction on if it's partially VA or entirely so}
really, who's clutching at straws ? I think anyone who refuses to wait for the tech specs and proclaims one thing or another. In the mean time, I think I'll place more faith in the guys who's comments come attached with pics of Roland execs.

OK, it's a second hand comment.
If the president of Roland posted here and said something, that would be first hand.
A person who posts that the president of Roland told them something- we are hearing that second hand.
Synza posts here about reading that second hand comment on FB- 3rd hand. But we can read about it ourselves on FB, so I'll give you second hand.
HOWEVER- read the caption. The guy posts a picture of him, then makes some claims about analog synthesizers and Roland. With no context, not even a quote.
Hence the grasping at straws part. How can anyone read ANYTHING into that picture on Facebook, other than that someone got his picture taken with someone? It's completely meaningless.

I'd be very surprised, though crazy happy, if Roland did come out with an analog drum machine, or even a hybrid. I love the basic Roland interface conventions of their grooveboxes and what not and their commitment to making VST editors is good. However, I seriously doubt this will be analog. That's not to say that it can't be good, but for those of us who do a lot of work ITB, I doubt it will be that interesting when things like Maschine exist.

There's no such thing as a 'second hand comment'. We're talking about information here. And I do believe I've already covered this topic to it's fullest, so your post on the issue is completely redundant. which, btw, is only marginally better than meaningless.Aural Chaos wrote: OK, it's a second hand comment.

No context ? are you serious ? The two dudes - one of whom is the president of Roland, standing together for a selfie pre or post discussion at a musik fair... there's your context.Aural Chaos wrote: HOWEVER- read the caption. When you said grasping at straws, you said something stupid about '3rd hand comment' ... that's the only meaningless thing I'm seeing here.Aural Chaos wrote: Hence the grasping at straws part. The fact is no one knows the tech specs, but we have movers & shakers in the music industry who are posting selfies with Roland top brass hinting or outright stating these will be analogue in some way. And we have some random gearslutz user who claimed to have played with a prototype briefly, stating it's VA. A statement he never qualified with 'fully VA' or 'partially'. And a statement he promptly deleted. For some reason, guys like you are happy to bank on the VA rumours ... and call bullshit on the Analogue rumours - despite the origin of these rumours. So, really, who's grasping at straws here ? They're both only rumours, and there's more to these boxes than the analogue/va aspect anyways {they look very performable to me, which is the main point IMO - so they already look like a winner to me}. People will believe what they want to believe I suppose, but it's stupid to fervently believe one rumour whilst fervently denying another. based on nothing but nerd rage. you're adding to the noise. congrats.
I own a couple Elektron boxes, from new. I also own various classic Roland boxes that are all about 30 yrs old.MFXxx wrote: Crazy speculative rhetorical thread.
Already superceeded by the Elektron, surely? Yes?
Guess which boxes have given me the most build headaches, unreliable interface issues, repair problems and expenses ?
there's more to a XOX box than it's tech specs, mate.

Well, it's Roland's fault... actually more like Roland's plan. Why else release such a vague teaser? We're falling right into their trap!MFXxx wrote:Crazy speculative rhetorical thread.![]()

As per Elektron... so far the small demo snippets of Aira sound better than any of the RYTM demos I've heard so far. My fear is that RYTM is going to be another disappointment to me, like the Tempest is.

You take yourself WAAAAY too seriously ChiTown....Not that I really even care, but read that quote again and attempt to explain what that has to do with whatever Roland has been teasing this past week or two. It's beyond vague.
PS "guys like me" couldn't give a shit about whether this is going to be analog or digital, cause "guys like me" aren't even interested in buying it. Whatever "it" is. But it is somewhat amusing to watch people get so wound up about it that they are scouring the internet for clues, so have fun with that!
