Yes, there are lots of things it doesn't have in regards to being a mixing engine. It's not a mixing engine, after all. My point is simply that it's providing something closer to a studio finished product than ever before, which I think could have a lot of benefits.
Where do you think you are? Pfftt, logical statement on kvr. :hihi:

I do like the idea of built in mixer view on sampletank 3 actually. I can sculpt the sound with built-in effect and export it to the daw for the bigger view mixing. I love my maschine and battery for that feature.

The previous one for me does not excite me enough to mix inside the plugin, but this one from the looks of it is interesting and fun.

A lot (if not all) of T-RackS CS Grand is now built-in to ST3. Mixing within ST3 is like mixing in a DAW, with plugin GUI's and everything.
here is the write up on Halion Sonic 2... Halion Sonic 2 have effect slot too... with reverb, compressor, eq, delay, amp simulation, convolution reverb, limiter, gate, etc, etc ,etc... i am not sure because of the fact Steinberg does not sell their effects as plug-in that T-Racks effects bundle is better... another point... i posted the spec of ST 3 from Musician Friend (the leak) and they stated that the effects in ST 3 are derived from T-Racks effect... not sure what that means... but i thought i would throw that into the mix to...

I'm a huge rompler fan, and have owned many if not all of the good ones imo. I wasn't happy with halion sonic, imo the Yamaha sound designers skimmped on the sound quality /sound content in halion sonic 1+2 = halion 4. I would go as far as to say halion one and version 2 we're less favorable for me, then Hypersonic 2. Halion does have some nice features, but imo the sounds just weren't as good, this is subjectable as u know.

Sampletank 2 + their addon libraries (sonic synth, miroslav, samplemoog, sampletron, and the many sonic reality libraries are to my ears and monitors of better sound quality, so with that alone in a bigger gui + 64bit enviroment, I would purchase this upgrade.

From the little bit of audio clips I've heard from jordan rudess and the namm stuff, S3 sounds even better then their older stuff. I welcome this update, it's about time we start getting some good romplers, they shouldn't only be tied to hardware companies.

The VA synth's in here such as U-he's line is impressive, Tone2, Lennar Digital all have offerings that can compete with hardware VA's imo, so thanks to IK for stepping up and filling a gap much needed in Vst land for romplers! :tu:

I'd hold off on the welcome until you are no longer peering off into the distance to greet your guest…hard to tell the difference between a rompler and a cloud of vapour at that distance!

Sure, to each his own. I personally consider IK's compressors and EQ's to be quite a bit better than Steinberg's, that's where my over-the-top statements are coming from. I wouldn't fault you for feeling the opposite.

IK told me ST3 has the actual T-RackS plugins built-in, just as it has 2 of the 4 actual CSR reverbs built-in.

IK told me every sound has been re-done. The sounds are so different now that they're even working on being able to import ST2 sounds, because your music won't sound the same if you simply assign the current ST3 patches in place of those from ST2.

Yeah, it's going to be a vapourware. IK are only spending all those money for booth on NAMM and promotion just for fun and a vapourware.

More (good) audio demos would be nice...

Would anybody happen to know if this is gonna let you have multiple outputs for drum channels? I love the old Vintage Comp set, but hate that it can´t send out the drums on separate channels.

The new effects on offer in HalionSonic 2 are quite good. And each effect has some great presets to get you going. There are also a number of routing options that are quite useful. Much of FX mixing can be done right in HS2, just like ST.

However, leaving the quality of each instruments' FX aside (both are excellent- YMMV of course) I still think ST gets the nod for ease of use (and the sheer number of FX if, in fact, it is shipping with 52 of them).

HS2 is configured like a traditional sampler. Although the new instrument GUI's are a welcome addition, and do make everything much easier, the nuts and bolts for tweakers are still backstage in a traditional sampler matrix. Tedious for guys like me who just want to hack around until inspiration strikes.

ST was designed to be easy, and it is. There's a fun factor there that really shouldn't be discounted. I look forward to the ST3 release.

Cheers

Integrated mixing is cool but certainly it matters more what you are mixing. No amount of mixing will help bad samples but I'm sure ST3 will have high quality sample content. I just want to know what that content is..........
